Mangaluru: Cops arrest 8; pistols, live bullets, car with ‘Govt of India’ nameplate seized

Mangaluru, Apr 17: Amidst high alert in the region following abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the Mangaluru city police have arrested eight people, who had arrived in this port city and stayed in a lodge and were travelling in a vehicle having an illegal nameplate written as ‘Government of India’ board.

The arrested are T Sam Peter (53), a native of Kerala, T K Bopanna (33) of Siddapura in Madikeri, Madan (41) of Bengaluru South, Chinnappa (38) of Virajpet, Sunil Raju (35)  of Kanakapura in Bengaluru, Kodandarama (39) of Gowdanapalya Utharahalli, G Moideen alian Cherian (70) of Kuloor in Mangaluru and S A K Abdul Lathif (59) of Falnir.

The police have recovered .22 revolver, and eight live rounds, 4.5 mm pistol, laptop, voice recorder and other documents. The gang also possessed fake identity cards and visiting cards.

City Police Commissioner Harsha said in a release that on August 16th night that a police team on night round spotted a suspicious SUV which had a board Director ‘National Crime Investigation Bureau’ Government of India, but without a registration plate.

Police apprehended five persons sitting in the vehicle after they tried to escape from the scene. On questioning the driver revealed that there were three more persons in the lodge, where he had parked his vehicle and the team was headed by one Sam Peter. The driver also revealed that the party could be planning to commit dacoity.

Kasaragod, Mar 29: The ban imposed by Karnataka in crossing state borders to Mangalore even for medical emergencies had cost a life here late on Friday.

According to sources, the ambulance carrying a 70-year-old woman for critical care treatment to Mangalore was blocked at Thalapadi border on Kasaragod-Mangalore National Highway on Friday evening.

A pregnant lady had to deliver in an ambulance recently as the police denied permission to cross over to Mangalore.

Hassan, May 8: A newly married couple accidentally fell into the Hemavathi river and drowned while clicking selfies near Henneli village in the district, police said on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Kritika (23) of the same village and Artheesh (27) of Belur taluk in the district.

They got married on March 20. Both were working in Bengaluru and were in the village due to the lockdown.

Dharward, Jul 25: In a shocking incident, a man reportedly killed his wife and daughter by feeding them poison and ended his life by hanging in his house. The incident took place in Dharwad on Saturday. 

The deceased have been identified as Mounesh Pattar (36), his wife Arpita (28) and their four-year-old daughter Sukruta. 

Mounesh was working in a private company in Dharwad and was depressed from the last one week fearing job loss. 

It was alleged that he might lose his job as the management decided to remove more than 40 employees due to covid -19 lockdown.

On Friday late night, he reportedly gave poison to his wife and daughter and later committed suicide by hanging self. The incident came to light on Saturday morning.

A case is registered at Sub Urban police station and further investigation is on.
