Mangaluru: Cops nab 7 near Big Bazaar

Mangaluru, Oct 21: The Mangaluru CCB police arrested seven persons who were making an attempt to rob near people Big Bazaar at Bejai in Mangaluru city.

Acting on a tip-off that a group of six to seven youths on three bikes were making an attempt to rob a few persons, the CCB sleuths arrested seven persons. The arrested include Pritham Poojary (23), a resident of Kappigudde near Kavoor; Vishal Kumar (23), a resident of KHB Colony in Kunjatbail; Gautam Devadiga (23), a resident of Derebail Konchadi; Vinod Raj (21), a resident of Moodushedde; Divakar (29), also a resident of Moodushedde; Pravin (25), a resident of Thokkottu and Karthik (25), a resident of Yeyyadi.

Police seized weapons, three bikes and six mobile phones. It is said the robbery plan was hatched as per the directions of Akashbhavan Sharan alias Rohidas, who is in district prison as an undertrial.

Among the arrested, Pritham has robbery cases against him at Mangalore East, Barke and Kavoor police stations, besides three cases of Haftha money threat and two cases registered against Vishal Kumar in Kavoor and Barke police stations.

Mangaluru, June 14: The management of Barakah International School and College has announced to waive off 33% of tuition fee in order to lessen the burden on parents who are undergoing financial crisis due to covid lockdown. 

This decision was taken after a series of virtual meetings with the Managing Director, Academic Director, Principal, Manager and PRO.

“While the school needs to continue to meet all the commitments and responsibilities towards the staff salaries, software, networking, etc, we fully understand that in the prevailing circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, job loss, reduction in salaries, general hardships of the self-employed businesses and the slowdown in the economy,” sated a release issued by the school.

“We would support our parent fraternity pro-actively and at the same time continue to meet the high-quality standards of our teaching- learning process and infrastructure so it has been decided that 1/3 of the tuition fee to be waived off for 2020-21,” the release said.

Mandya, Apr 3: Following the lock down in the country, people habit ventured into Liquor bottles worth several lakhs of rupees have been stolen at two places in the district.

Miscreants targeted a wine store at Chikka Mandya on the outskirts of the town in the early hours and also made away with the stock from a wine store near Hadly Circle in Malavalli town late night on Thursday. The incidents came to light on Friday.

A window was broken open at Chikka Mandya store and a wall was drilled at Malavalli store to take away the cartons, the police said.

Bengaluru, April 3: Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illicit liquor.

The probe team also allegedly seized bottles worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation into the matter is underway, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police informed news agency.
