Mangaluru, Oct 20: As many as 14 college students have been arrested by the police in this coastal city for consuming cannabis in a day.
The arrests were made as part of a special anti-narcotics drive carried out to detect and book youths for using ganja.
Acting on a tip off, a joint team of Anti Rowdy Squad of Central Sub Division and Urwa Police raided two city colleges on Thursdayand arrested 14 students who were found consuming cannabis.
All the 14 were booked under Section 27 (b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
On Tuesday, the Central Crime Branch Police arrested seven persons, including a final year degree student from a city college. These seven persons were found consuming cannabis at an isolated place near the Infant Jesus Church in Bajjodi.
The youths, residents of various places across the city were addicted to ganja, T R Suresh, city police chief said in a release.
Parents/guardians of the youths were summoned to the police station and asked to keep an eye on their respective wards and ensure they steered clear from drugs in future.
