Mangaluru: District level inter-club badminton tourney held

Mangaluru Dec 11: City-based Kanara Club organized a district level inter-club Manmohan Malli Memorial Badminton Tournament from December 8 to 10 at its indoor courts. D.K. District Badminton Association President Sadananda Shetty graced the occasion as Chief Guest and awarded Trophy and Merit Certificates to the winners and the Runners up and congratulated them on their achievements. 

Organizing Committee Chairman Jayanth Shetty welcomed the gathering and lauded the sportsman spirit displayed by the players. President of Kanara Club Dr. Roshan Shetty proposed the vote thanks and specially thanked the sponsors of the Tournament, Secretary Mrs. Sharon Preetha Ammanna was present on this occasion Mrs. Marina Rebello compeered the programme. 50 teams participated in the tournament.

Mangaluru, Feb 19: Social worker Tabassum who has been rendering selfless service to HIV/AIDS affected children through her shelter home 'Snehadeep' at Bejai has been selected for the Annual Award of Mangaluru Press Club for the year 2019.

Tabassum, a resident of Konaje was chosen by a team of judges comprising Prof Balakrishna Gatti, Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla and Dr Nagaveni Manchi.

The passion of young  Ms Tabassum and Social Working of today, particularly, gives me lot of hope.  It almost feels like the political class wants to bring down India while the people are so hard working and committed to nation building.

Bengaluru, June 14: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led BJP government of Karnataka has once again urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led union BJP government to release GST compensation worth Rs 10,208 crore that is due for the state.

The request was placed with Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman during the 40th GST council meeting, in which Karnataka Home Minister and state’s representative to the council, Basavaraj Bommai, participated.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Bommai said that Rs 10,208 crore was due from the Centre as GST compensation for four four months - from March to May.

“We have requested the Centre to release Rs 1,460 crore - pertaining to GST compensation for the month of March - as soon as possible due to the dire financial conditions of the state,” he said.

Bommai said that the state was confident that the funds will be released soon, noting that Karnataka had recently received Rs 4,314 in GST compensation for three months, between December 2019 to February 2020.

Meanwhile, the state also proposed the Council to reduce penalty for delay in filing GST. Bommai said that while people are made to pay 18% of the tax as fine in delay in payment, Karnataka has asked the Centre to reduce the percentage by half to 9%.

Bantwal, Apr 29: Two people were injured after the truck laden with poultry feed rammed into the compound wall of after catching fire on Wednesday, at Marnabailu near Melkar.

Police said the injured were the driver and an assistant in the truck. They were admitted to a private hospital at Mangaluru.

However, it is not yet clear whether the truck transporting poultry feed from a company at Kandur caught fire after colliding against the electric pole or with the compound wall.
