Mangaluru | Don’t smuggle cows; don’t take law into hands: DC tells people ahead of Eid al-Adha

Mangaluru, Aug 6: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has made elaborate arrangements and taken precautions for the smooth celebration of Eid al-Adha (Bakrid), to begin from August 12 in the region.

Addressing newsmen Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil today said that necessary instructions are given to the concerned to prevent illegal slaughter and transportation of cows as well as to take action against those who take lawn into their hands.

“People should not take law into their hands upon coming across illegal slaughter/ transportation and instead inform the jurisdictional police. If public indulge in such activities, stringent action will be initiated against the guilty,” the DC said.

He asked the local administrations and the police to make suitable arrangements by placing barricades and similar other things near places of prayer and also make arrangements for traffic movement.

Tahsildars, if necessary, may convene peace committee meetings for the smooth celebration of the festival.

Livestock Logistic Control App:

The DC said the administration has launched Livestock Logistic App aimed at solving issues pertaining to cattle transportation. The cattle transporters can download this mobile app and furnish details regarding the cattle being transported by them, he said.

Stating that this information aims at ensuring that the cattle was being transported legally and added that furnishing info through this app does not mean permission for cattle transportation.

For the time being, the app will be used only for transporters to furnish information, Later   there would be a system of keeping an eye on the transportation vehicles through GPS, he said.

The DC said the app has been developed in the wake of request from cattle transporters and added that this app will be helpful to those who transport cattle legally. The App can be downloaded from play store in a couple of days, he added.

Bengaluru, Apr 10: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, expressing his concern over the plight of stray animals struggling during lockdown, called upon people to feed the animals near their houses and provide them drinking water.

In a tweet he said "Due to scorching heat and Lockdown, cats, dogs and birds are suffering without water and food. In cities this situation much serious. So I appeal to people that people should see that dogs and birds their get food and water.

Please be kind and take some time off to feed stray animals and birds around your homes. Try providing them with water and leftovers so they're not parched and left hungry. Stray animals depend on wastes and leftovers from hotels and restaurants and have been hit by the Lockdown to check the spread of Corona virus.

Kasaragod, Mar 21: The lack of self-restraint and social distancing by people here, the ones who come from the Middle East regions, in particular, has been a cause of concern for the district authorities who have time and again been reiterating the need to follow tips from health authorities to counter the spread of Novel Coronavirus.

But as things are feared to go out of control, the district authorities including the Collector Dr. Sajith Babu have come out to the streets and bazaars only to impose social distancing instructions now in place in the district strictly since six more persons have been tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday.

According to health authorities, the new cases were caused by a few people who recently returned from abroad and who did not follow the self-quarantine measures.

Bengaluru, Apr 21: The group who had attacked police and healthcare workers at the minority-dominated Padarayanapura in the city on Sunday night had raised slogans ''kill police'' when the team went to quarantine some people, the police alleged in an FIR.

Around 100 to 120 people rushed out onto the road targeting the police and health workers who wanted to pick up primary and secondary contacts of coronavirus patients.

Cases have been registered against the miscreants based on the complaint of police officers.

In one of the FIRs, police sub-inspector Raman Gowda complained that when he went to quarantine 43 people with the healthcare officers, around 120 people rushed out and attacked them.

"The group of people holding sticks and stones rushed from Arafat Nagar," Mr Gowda said.

When he was trying to stop them from destroying a CCTV camera, the mob attacked him shouting slogans ''Kill the police. Don't spare them," he alleged in the FIR.

"They wanted to kill us with stones and sticks and some of our staff sustained injuries," the officer said.

According to police, 59 people have been arrested including A woman who had allegedly masterminded the attack.
