The tragedy occurred on the inaugural day of the three-day National Invitational Pro-Kabaddi tournament being organised by the Dakhina Kannada Amateur Kabaddi Association.

Around 2,000 people had come to watch the match between two teams of which one had players from Dakshina Kannada. The viewers gallery was placed on three sides, while the fourth formed the stage. The match was being played in the centre.

Hundreds of spectators were seated on the gallery on the right side of the stage. Around 9 p.m. the gallery tilted towards the back. Those seated on the top row fell on the ground. Following this, the organisers switched off power and this led to tension.

Police Sub Inspector Satish and a team of policemen rushed to the spot and quickly arranged to shift a dozen injured persons to the A.J. Hospital and NMPT Hospital. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjeev Patil said that five persons suffered grievous injuries, including fracture.

The Panambur police said that the cause for the mishap is being investigated.

Among the teams scheduled taking part are ONGC Delhi, Air India Mumbai, Central Railways, Dena Bank, Maharashtra State Police, State Bank of Mysore, HAL, and High Tech from Chennai. Local teams such as Alva's College and Sporting Ullal have also taken part.

If the gallery collapses on first day then better to call of the tourney on first day itself to avoid a bigger tragedy. Organisers should be charged with attempt to murder for this carelessness.

Ballari, Jan 13: Police on Monday arrested more than 30 Congress activists, including Congress MLA B Z Zameer Ahmad, who were on the way to Ballari to stage a dharna in front of MLA G Somashekhar Reddy's residence after he delivered hate speech during a pro-CAA demonstration a week ago.

Ballari Superintendent of Police SP C K Baba said that Congress MLA B Z Zameer Ahmed has not been granted permission to stage a dharna in front of the Bellary MLA’s residence.

Zameer Ahmed had asked the police to arrest Mr Reddy after he delivered a provocative speech or he will stage a dharna in front of the later's house.

SP said, “Investigations into the complaints pertaining to the provocative speech by Bellary City MLA G Somashekar Reddy is underway. In-charge Dy SP Maheshwara Gouda has taken statements of the complainants and others related to the case. A charge sheet on the same will be submitted to the court soon."

Reddy has been booked for making a provocative speech during a pro-CAA protest here in Ballari last week in which he said that Hindus outnumbered Muslims.

Following the incident police provided high police security to the MLA house and sensitive area in the city.

Bengaluru, Feb 10: The Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday conducted a route march (Pathsanchalan) in Ramanagara to express solidarity with the anti-Christian forces protesting against a project to install 114-feet tall Jesus Christ statue atop Kapalabetta in Harobele town in Kanakapura taluk in Ramanagara district.

Hindutva ideologue Kalladka Prabhakara Bhat, who had led a rally in Kanakapura last month against the project, also led the Sunday’s route march and addressed a public meeting following the march.

“The district name is Ramanagara, but they have not nurtured the culture of Ram here. They have developed a strong culture of Ravana, which we pledged to dislodge,” Bhat told the gathering.

He said the Sangh Parivar will never allow the statue to come up as he said it would foment religious conversion that is rampant in Harobele.

“The so called Kapalabetta is of stones, which are revered as Lord Muneswara by the Hindus. This hillock must be named as Muneswara Betta,” he added.

Referring to the ongoing protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Bhat said the law was brought in to protect the Hindu minority in Pakistan and Bangla Desh.

“The Muslims living in India hail Pakistan. But when we ask them to go to Pakistan, they will never go,” he took a jibe at the minority community.

Reacting to the RSS route march, senior Congress functionary DK Shivakunar, who represents Kanakapura assembly seat, said the Sangah Parivar is trying to disturb the communal harmony in the district and they will never succeed in it.

“The BJP is operating through the Sangh Parivar in the Ramanagara district. The party has won as may as 26 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, still they are doing all these things to keep their support base. People of Ramanagara will never back them,” said Shivakumar.
