Mangaluru, Jun 22: Dr Rajesh Bhat, a reputed obstetrician and gynaecologist of this coastal city, passed away after collapsing when participating in badminton tournament at Mangala Stadium here today. He was 48.
It is learnt that Dr Bhat suffered a massive heart attack and collapse. Although he was rushed to A J Hospital, his life could not be saved despite the best efforts of the attending doctors.
After completing his MBBS (1995) and DGO (1998) from Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru he had started his career as a junior doctor at K.S Hegde Medical Academy.
Later he joined Bhat’s Nursing Home run by his mother late Dr Malathi Bhat, who was also renowned obstetrician and gynaecologist. He was the full time working partner of Bhat’s Nursing Home. He is survived by wife, Dr Veena Bhat, and family members.
The badminton tournament "Mangalore Premier League" has been cancelled following Dr Bhat’s demise.
