Speaking on the occasion he directed the MCC to install a new scrubber-cum-high-chimney at the crematorium and get approval for the same from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB). Till that is done, the old chimney could be used.

The MLA asked the corporation to purchase a generator and commission it at the earliest. Installing the two new facilities would cost about Rs. 25 lakh. Mr. Lobo also instructed the corporation to put up a new roof for the electric fire chamber building.

He called upon people who lose prejudices against using the environment-friendly electric fire chambers.

He added that based on the success of the electric fire chamber at Boloor, the authorities would take a call on installing them at the Kadri and Nandigudda crematoriums.

The electric fire chamber at Boloor had been defunct for a decade. It was first introduced in 1990, and functioned till 2006. Once the chamber went out of the order, it was replaced with a liquefied petroleum gas-based fire chamber. This chamber was in use till 2011, when it also went out of service.

The corporation has spent around Rs. 20 lakh on this new facility — Rs. 13 lakh on the electric chamber and Rs. 7 lakh on the electric transformer. The new facility can be put to use from Wednesday.

ISLAM says the dead body will feel PAIN.... Please stop torturing the DEAD by such electric fire chamber...
QURAN has a lot of things to say about MANKIND and all the CREATION of ALLAH...
Every soul will die and it has an appointed time with our CREATOR... The eternal life (which will never end) starts when the CREATOR who gave us this life takes it back & will be judged for their deeds of this Life.
Recognize the TRUE CREATOR and Do good for the eternal Heaven..

Mandya, Jun 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised an 83-year-old farmer from Malavalli taluk in Mandya district of Karnataka for his efforts in water conservation.

While urging the people to focus on saving water, Modi, in his 'Man Ki Baat' on All India Radio quoted Kamegowda from Dasna Doddi village who single handedly dug small 16 ponds over the years in his farm land and in nearby hill while taking his animals for grazing.

"Kamegowda ji is an ordinary farmer, albeit possessing an extraordinary personality. He has achieved a personal feat that will leave anyone awestruck! Kamegowda ji, aged 80-85 takes out his animals for grazing but at the same time he has taken it upon himself to build new ponds in his area", the PM said in his Mann Ki Baat, a monthly radio address on Sunday.

To overcome problems of water scarcity in the area, Gowda started building small ponds. Thereby, he contributed a lot for water conservation, the PM said.

"... An octagenerarian like Kamegowda ji, till now, has dug 16 ponds through his hard work and the sweat of his brow. It is possible that the ponds he has constructed may not be very big but then his efforts are huge. Today, the entire area has got a new lease of life on account of these ponds," the PM said.

A little effort by us helps nature and environment quite significantly. Many of our countrymen are putting extraordinary efforts in this endeavour, the PM said.

Kamegowda, used to take his sheep and goats to nearby hill for grazing. After finding no water to sheeps, he started digging ponds to address water scarcity. With collection of rain water, these lakes are brimming with water even during peak summer.

Kochi, Jan 12: Golden Kayaloram, the fourth and last Maradu residential apartment was razed by controlled implosion in Kochi on Sunday afternoon as per the directions of the Supreme Court.

The building came crashing down, leaving the entire area in a cover of white smoke.

Earlier today, Jain Coral Cove, the apartment having the maximum number of housing units among the illegally built buildings, was razed down at 11:02 am.

The authorities coordinated the operations from a control room set up at the office of the Inland Waterways Authority of India.

As per municipal records, there were 122 housing units in Jain Coral Cove and 41 in Golden Kayaloram.

The prohibitory orders that were clamped in the area will remain imposed for the day. The district administration on Saturday imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

On Saturday, the 19-floor H2O Holy Faith apartment complex with 90 flats and the Alfa Serene complex with twin towers were demolished at 11 am and 11:05 am respectively.

The buildings are razed for violating the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules. The directions in this regard were passed by the Supreme Court last year.
