Mangaluru gets more rain than last year so far, but less than average

Mangaluru, Jun 27: Even though Mangaluru taluk recorded less than average rain fall this year, it has already breached the last year's monsoon rainfall figures.

However, the meteorological department's prediction of above normal' monsoon has not yet reflected in Mangaluru and other parts of the coastal district.

Last year by June 27 Mangaluru taluk received 770 mm of rain, this year it has been 1032.3 mm so far. The average rainfall for the period is 1248 mm.

The other four districts of Dakshina Kannada received rain less than last year. As a result the overall rainfall in the district so far this year is also less compared to last year.

Till today the district received 843 mm rain this year, last year it was 100.6 mm. The normal rainfall figures for the district during this period are 1,176.2 mm.

Mangaluru , Mar 30: Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Laxmi Prasad on Monday suspended a constable attached to Subramanya Police Station for manhandling the chief priest of Kukke Subramanya Temple on Saturday.

According to the police, when the priest Srinivas Bhat was on his way to the temple to offer Puja, Prasad, a police constable intercepted him and enquired where he was going during the lockdown period and then charged at him with lathi on his hand and back.

The priest, then immediately filed a complaint at local police station, following which a complaint was also brought to the notice of Deputy SP of Puttur Sub-division.Please lo

Bengaluru, Feb 10: Former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil Kumaraswamy today got engaged to Revathi, the grand-niece of Congress leader and realtor M Krishnappa.

On February 6, Mr Nikhil shared a picture with Ms Revathi on his official Facebook account.

Mr Nikhil's grandfather and former prime minister of India HD Deve Gowda attended the event along with several other politicians at the Taj West End.

BJP leaders including Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa former chief minister Jagadish Shetter were also present.

Mr Nikhil, 30, is a Kannada film actor who made his debut in the bilingual movie Jaguar in 2016. The actor will soon start shooting for his new movie Production No-1.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he lost to Sumalatha Ambareesh, widow of former Karnataka actor Ambareesh, in the Mandya constituency in Karnataka.

Karwar, May 29: A five-month-old baby girl was discharged from Kasturba Institute of Medical Sciences (KIIMS), Mangaluru after her successful recovery from Covid-19 on Friday.

The baby was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru in the third week of April for the treatment of epilepsy and on May 8, the baby, her parents tested positive for Covid-19 and they were also admitted. It is said that they contracted the virus from their 18-year-old relative.

Although the parents were discharged from KIMS on May 23, since the baby had epilepsy, doctors continued the treatment for 19 days.
