Mangaluru gets more rain than last year so far, but less than average

Mangaluru, Jun 27: Even though Mangaluru taluk recorded less than average rain fall this year, it has already breached the last year's monsoon rainfall figures.

However, the meteorological department's prediction of above normal' monsoon has not yet reflected in Mangaluru and other parts of the coastal district.

Last year by June 27 Mangaluru taluk received 770 mm of rain, this year it has been 1032.3 mm so far. The average rainfall for the period is 1248 mm.

The other four districts of Dakshina Kannada received rain less than last year. As a result the overall rainfall in the district so far this year is also less compared to last year.

Till today the district received 843 mm rain this year, last year it was 100.6 mm. The normal rainfall figures for the district during this period are 1,176.2 mm.

Ballari, Mar 6: Ballari Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul on Friday said that two persons who had shown symptoms of COVID-19 had been admitted to the district government hospital here.

Informing this to the presspersons here, Mr Nakul said that the cases were reported from Jindal village of K R Hospital taluk and another one from Hospet town in Ballari taluk.

He said a suspect returned from Dubai to Hospet last week and showed symptoms of COVID-19. Both suspected patients were admitted to special isolated ward in Ballari government hospital and their throat swab tests taken on Thursday had been sent to lab in Bangalore to check for COVID-19.

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Karnataka government on Friday issued revised guidelines for international returnees.

According to the guidelines, all the travelers shall submit self-declaration form on the Yatri Karnataka online portal at least 72 hours before the scheduled date of travel.

"All travelers shall submit Self-declaration forrn on the Yatri Karnataka online portal (http://www,covidwar.karnataka.gov.in or http://parihara.kaarnateka.gov.in/service38/) least 72 hours before the scheduled date of travel," it read.

It said that Before Boarding Do's and Don, about COV1D-19 quarantine, testing, etc. shall be provided along with ticket to the travellers by the travel agencies concerned.

All passengers shall download Arogya Setu app, Quarantine watch app end Apthamitra App on their mobile devices, (https://covid-19.karnataka.gov.in/new-page/softwares/en).

At the time of boarding the flight/ ship, only asymptomatic travellers shall be allowed in board after thermal screening.

"Deboarding should be done by ensuring physical distancing of two meters. 

Self-declaration form shall be obtained from each passenger in duplicate," the guidelines read.

Karnataka has 75,076 active cases of the virus with 80,281 recovered and 2,897 deaths so far.

Kannur, Mar 29: A non-resident Keralite (NRK)

under home quarantine here since he returned from Sharjah recently died on Sunday, officials said.

According to health authorities, Abdul Khader (65), a resident of Kannariparamba, was kept under home quarantine after he returned from abroad on March 21.

Police said the man had no symptoms of coronavirus but was under isolation as per Covid-19 protocol for persons returning from abroad and other states.

"The relatives of the deceased took him to hospital after seeing him unconscious in his room. However he died before reaching the hospital," police said.

Quoting medical college authorities, the Mayyil police said he died of cardiac arrest.

However, the health officials said they will test his blood sample to ascertain whether he was affected with novel coronavirus.

The body has been kept at the Kannur medical college and will be handed over to his kin only if the result of his blood test is negative, sources said.
