Mangaluru gets more rain than last year so far, but less than average

Mangaluru, Jun 27: Even though Mangaluru taluk recorded less than average rain fall this year, it has already breached the last year's monsoon rainfall figures.

However, the meteorological department's prediction of above normal' monsoon has not yet reflected in Mangaluru and other parts of the coastal district.

Last year by June 27 Mangaluru taluk received 770 mm of rain, this year it has been 1032.3 mm so far. The average rainfall for the period is 1248 mm.

The other four districts of Dakshina Kannada received rain less than last year. As a result the overall rainfall in the district so far this year is also less compared to last year.

Till today the district received 843 mm rain this year, last year it was 100.6 mm. The normal rainfall figures for the district during this period are 1,176.2 mm.

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Former Minister and Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader has gone into self-quarantine after former MLC Ivan D’Souza tested positive for coronavirus. 

Mr D’Souza had met Mr Khader and many other Congress leaders a day before receiving his throat swab test results. 

Mr Khader announced on twitter: “Have gone into self-quarantine with immediate effect after receiving the news about #Covid_19 positive test of Former MLC Ivan D’Souza & his wife Dr Kavitha. Being COVID Incharge DK District taskforce committee, I am one among Ivan's primary contact.”

“I am going to discharge my duties from home for the next few days. You can reach out over phone at any point of time. I appeal to all my colleagues and friends who may have come in contact with us in the last few days to get tested for #Covid_19” he tweeted.

Bengaluru, May 9: Dubai NRI Kannadigaru president and entrepreneur Naveed Magundi in a video message thanked government of India for helping stranded Indians in Arab countries to return home. 

The video was shared by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan on Friday on Twitter. 

"Kannadigas, who are in trouble in the Arab countries and wanting to return home, have got the central government's rapid response. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gratitude video on behalf of Dubai President Kannadigas," Narayan said in the tweet.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has prepared a chart for the first phase evacuation of over 14,000 Indian nationals stranded in 13 foreign countries by 64 flights in week one of the operation.

Mysuru, Jan 11: City Police has intensified its search for a girl student who a displayed 'Free Kashmir' poster during a protest two days back.

According to police, a girl student displayed the poster carrying an anti-national message, during the protest organised by University of Mysore Researchers Association and other organisation on Wednesday to oppose the attack on the students and the teachers in Jawaharlal Nehru University in the National Capital. An officer said that as per the documents available, it appears that a girl student displayed the placard for a few minutes.

"We are looking for the accused". The Jayalakshmipuram police have taken up suo motu cognisance of the case. Meanwhile. the office of Governor Vajubhai Vala, on Thursday, sought a detailed report from the University of Mysore (UoM) over the incident. The city police have booked the protestors under Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
