Mangaluru: Hindu, Muslim, Christian priests call for unity at communal amity meet

Mangaluru, Oct 3: Religious and community leaders belonging to different faiths in this coastal city of Mangaluru today got together to exhort the people to promote communal harmony and establish peace in the society.

The event was Sahuaarda Samaagama, a communal amity meet organised by the Dakshina Kannada district committee of the Karnataka Muslim Jamaat at Hotel Ocean pearl in the city.

Presiding over the meet, Y Abdulla Kunhi, chancellor of Yenepoya University and president of the committee, said that it was the responsibility of every individual to strive for the establishment of peace in the society. He said that education is one of the means to establish peace and peace will lead to progress.

Shafi Sa’adi, general secretary of Karnataka Muslim Jamaat, said that eradicating the misconceptions among people is an important mission towards establishing a peaceful and harmonious society. He said forcible conversion and terrorism have no place in Islam.

Esha Vittala Dasa Swami of Kemaru Mutt said that all religions encourage their followers to help the needy and solving the problems of people irrespective of their religion, caste and race.

Rev Fr Ravi Santhosh Kamath SJ said that in a plural society like India Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and followers of other faiths should live like the members of a same family.

V H P leader Prof. M B Puranik said that misinformation and misunderstandings about other religions lead to confrontations and hence people should remove misconceptions about other religions.

Committee’s working president S M Rasheed Haji welcomed. Secretary B M Mumtaz Ali proposed vote of thanks.

Dakshina Kannada records 90 new covid cases; total 915

Mangaluru, Jul 2: As many as 90 persons have tested positive for covid-19 in last 24 hours in Dakshina Kannada district.

With this, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the district mounted to 915.

Out of the 90 positive cases, fifteen persons had returned from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Dubai. A BJP MLA, DHO and a pathologist are also among those who infected.

Congress creating confusion among Muslim over CAA, claims BSY

Bengaluru, Jan 5: BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa once again blamed the Congress of creating 'confusion' among the Muslim community over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019 while launching a door to door campaign to dispel such rumors.

Yediyurappa was on a door-to-door campaign to make people aware of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and to allay their fears.

"Unnecessarily, the members of Congress are creating confusion among the Muslim community. I assure you that not a single Muslim will be affected because of CAA," said B. S. Yediyurappa.

"Almost all previous Prime Ministers have supported it, now Congress is creating a problem so as to create confusion among Muslims. That's why we are out on the door-to-door campaign," he said.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

Indians stranded abroad due to corona lockdown to be brought back only if states agree to take them

New Delhi, Apr 26: The Centre will bring back the Indian citizens stranded abroad due to the ban on arrival of international passenger aircraft, only if the respective states they belong to agree to allow them to come back home and make necessary arrangements to quarantine them after their return.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has started consultations with the State Governments on bringing back the Indians, who got stranded in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada and many other foreign countries due to the ban on arrival of international passenger aircraft to any airport in the country. The decision on facilitating their return to the country would be taken after getting feedback on preparedness of the States and the Union Territory to receive them following all required health precautions, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba said.

Gauba on Saturday had a video-conference with the Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories to review the implementation of the restrictions on travel and transport as well as the lockdown imposed across the country to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though the Government earlier either evacuated or facilitated the return of nearly 28000 Indians from a number of foreign countries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, it almost stopped doing so after the ban on arrival of international passenger aircraft was enforced on March 23 in the wake of the spurt in the number of COVID-19 cases in India.

Thousands of Indian students, tourists, professionals and others are stranded around the world, including in the countries, where respective governments had imposed lockdowns to contain the pandemic. They have been desperately requesting the government on social media to evacuate them.
