Mangaluru, Jan 14: The police have arrested a so called Hindutva activist who had misused a photo of Student Federation of India (SFI) leader Madhuri Bolar and issued threats on social media.

The arrested has been identified as Srihari alias Harish Devadiga alias Kakanje Devadiga, hailing from Kakanje in Belthangdi taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

The police managed to catch him near Pumpwell in Mangaluru on Saturday. Police have also seized the mobile through which he used to send the threat messages and produced him in court. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.

Police said that there are a few more suspects who are yet to be arrested in connection with the case.

Madhuri, who also belongs to Hindu community, had lodged a police complaint on January 9 against the miscreants for circulating her old group photo on social media and warning her against mingling with Muslim boys.

The photo was taken by one of Madhuri’s friends a year ago when a group of SFI cadres were traveling in a bus to attend a camp. It was uploaded on Facebook. The trouble mongers who observed the photo recently, noticed a Muslim boy -Hamza Kinya- posing with others. Then they began to circulate it on social media with a warning to him against roaming with Hindu girls.

Shocked to see her photo doing rounds on social media Madhuri complained to the police. In her complaint, she said that Hamza was required to travel in the same bus as he was the district Joint Secretary of SFI.

Al Sudais, who is also the president of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, predicted this while answering a question from a reporter about the possibility of having worshippers gather again at the mosque.

He said that soon people will be allowed to return to the mosque for prayers and for circumambulation around the holy Kaaba.

The authorities care about people more than anything else, he said. "All Muslims should pray to Allah to help us through this pandemic. People must be careful and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others," he added.

Kalaburgi, May 27: Karnataka's Kalaburgi district recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, as per information provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In light of the increasing mercury levels, people here were seen consuming sugarcane juice and cold drinks to beat the heat. Animals and birds could also be seen searching for water for relief from the scorching sun.

Locals of the area requested the district administration to take necessary actions such as spraying water on roads, in order to bring down the temperatures.

"We are facing huge heat waves in this district from the past two days, and even the temperature is around 44 to 45 degrees on a daily basis. So, it is a very alarming situation in Kalaburgi. When we move around the city, we are unable to find water and fresh fruit juice, and even if fresh juice is available, we are afraid of getting infected by COVID-19," said one local.

"If we carry cold water, it gets warm within half an hour, and gets unfit for drinking, and it is tough for us. I request the district administration to look into this matter and do the needful such as spraying water on the roads, etc. for slightest relief," he added.
