Mangaluru: Home Minister inaugurates Panambur police station, 16 quarters

Mangaluru, Nov 18: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Friday inaugurated 16 new police quarters, Panambur police station and the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (North) in the city.

Mr. Parameshwara said that the government intends to provide quarters to the one lakh policemen. Under the Police Gruha scheme, the State government has taken up construction of 11,000 quarters in three phases.

While they have constructed 2,500 quarters in the first phase, 4,500 are being constructed in the second phase. The remaining quarters will be constructed in another 12 months, he said.

District in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai, MLA Mohiuddin Bava and MLC Ivan D'Souza also spoke on the occasion. Additional Director General of Police Sunil Kumar, Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Arun Chakravarthy and Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar participated the function.

Mangaluru, Feb 12: As many as 54 house surgeons from Kasturba Medical College (KMC) staged a protest near the casualty of the Wenlock Hospital on Wednesday over over non-payment of monthly stipend.

House surgeons, who have studied MBBS under the government quota, have not received their stipend from last 11 months. They have to get a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000 during their one-year internship at the government hospital.

The protesting house surgeons alleged that their stipends have not been released despite Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s written order dated December 24.

Bengaluru, May 20: An owner of a hair cutting training salon in the city has given shelter to the jobless IT professionals and migrant workers hailing from north-eastern states and Nepal, in his salon.

Rahul Rai, the owner said, "The moment the lockdown started then I received many complaints from different corners that several persons became jobless and they were thrown out of their rented accommodations."

"They are from different states of the North-east and some of them are from Nepal also. I converted my hair-cutting training salon into a shelter home for them," he added.

A person who got shelter at the salon said, "I lost my job after the lockdown started. I was facing a lot of issues after my landlord had evicted me from my rented accommodation. I spent about a week nearby a lake. I managed to contact Rahul Rai through Facebook and he rescued me along with many others."

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa has received two threatening calls from Tamil Nadu, according to Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He said that he had instructed the police to provide adequate security. 

At 12.30 pm on Friday, an unidentified person made a phone call. Speaking in Tamil, he threatened Eshwarappa with life, it is said.

Eshwarappa is known for abusive remarks and issuing threats to non-Hindus.
