Mangaluru, Aug 9: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who is known for using social media to address the concerns of the people, has come forward to help a newly wedded Muslim couple facing a forced separation during their scheduled honeymoon trip.

Faizan Patel, a photographer hailing from Mangaluru and settled in Delhi, had planned his honeymoon trip to Europe. He got the shock of his life when he learnt that his wife Sana's passport is missing.

However, instead of cancelling the trip, Mr Patel decided to go alone on honeymoon. After boarding an international flight on Monday, he clicked a picture of him seated on a plane and his wife's photo being tucked to the seat next to him.

The 30-year-old man then tweeted the picture tagging Sushma Swaraj. He did not even request for her help directly. To his utter surprise, the minister not only responded to his tweet but also assured him that his wife would be with him on the next seat.

And that was not just a jumla'. The minister immediately took necessary steps to provide Sana a duplicate passport within a day. The lucky girl is likely to board a Europe bound flight tomorrow.

An alumnus of St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, Faizan Patel is now a successful wedding photographer in Delhi. He fell in love with Delhi girl Sana after meeting her in Manipal Institute of Communication. The marriage took place on December 16, 2015. Thanks to his busy schedule, the couple had postponed their honeymoon trip to this August.

Dammam, May 29: A woman hailing from Mangaluru, who was waiting for repatriation amidst coronavirus lockdown in Saudi Arabia, passed away yesterday after a brief illness.

The deceased has been identified as Lateefa (55), wife of Abdul Azeez, a resident of Angaragundi near Baikampady on the outskirts of the city.

She had flown to Saudi Arabia in November 2019 along with her husband to spend some time with their NRI son in Dammam. They were supposed to return in April this year.

After the sudden cancellation of regular flights due to lockdown, they were waiting for the repatriation flights from Dammam to Mangaluru or Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, Lateefa’s health condition worsened and she was hospitalised. She passed away on Thursday without responding to any treatment. Last rites are expected to take place in Dammam.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: The mother and grandmother of the 10-month-old baby boy, under treatment at a private hospital in Deralakatte here for COVID-19 infection, tested negative.

Doctors at the hospital said the condition of the infant, who was admitted with an acute respiratory infection, was stable and there had been a good response to the treatment being given in isolation.

The child, hailing from Sajipanadu Village in Bantwal Taluk was admitted to a hospital at Deralakatte in Mangaluru for treatment on March 23 as it had developed respiratory problems.

On March 24, the child’s condition worsened and hence his throat swabs was sent for COVID-19 testing. On March 27, reports of the tests confirmed that the child was infected with COVID-19.

Health authorities are of the view that the baby might have contracted the disease when the family travelled recently to Kasaragod in Kerala, a district identified as a hotspot for Coronavirus.
