Mangaluru: Husband, wife die as truck knocks down scooter at Nanthoor

Mangaluru, Jun 12: A married couple was killed after a reckless trucked rammed into a scooter at Nanthoor junction in the city today.

The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Sameer Kaup (30), who was riding the scooter and his wife Amreen (26), who was riding pillion.

According to sources, the cement-laden Eicher truck hit the scooter from behind a few meters away from Nanthoor Circle.

The impact was such that the husband and wife were thrown onto the road. Within seconds they were run over by the truck.

Both were rushed to a private hospital. The woman breathed her last even before reaching the hospital while her husband died in the hospital.

Police have registered a case and investigations are on. Negligence on part of truck driver is said to be main reason for the accident.

Mangaluru, May 9: An Indian expatriate worker from Karnataka’s coastal district of Dakshina Kannada died of in Dubai after he suffered a cardiac arrest.

The deceased has been identified as Yashwant, 37, hailing from Malali Kajila House in Tenkulipady village, on the outskirts of Mangaluru.

He was working as an air-conditioner mechanic in Dubai for the last two years.

As per sources, he suffered a heart attack. However, the exact cause of this death is yet to be known.

Bengaluru, Apr 27: A 50-year old coronavirus patient allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of a hospital building here on Monday, police said.

The patient jumped from the trauma ward of the Victoria Hospital, a senior police official said.

According to hospital sources, the man, who was admitted with acute respiratory problem on Friday, was also suffering from kidney problems.

This morning, he jumped off the fifth floor of the building, they said.

Further investigations are on, police said.

Bengaluru, Mar 20: Two COVID-19 positive patients in Karnataka have fully recovered and will be discharged today.

Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said: "Two COVID-19 positive patients have completely recovered and will be discharged tomorrow. They will be kept under home quarantine for 14 days as a precautionary measure."

The number of COVID-19 positive patients in Karnataka stands at 14 as of today.

"The total number of positive cases of COVID19 in India stands at 173, including 25 foreigners. Four deaths (1 each) have occurred in Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra," said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a statement.

According to official data provided by the Ministry of Health, as many as 15 people infected with the virus have been discharged after receiving treatment.
