Mangaluru: Mafazah Sharafuddin, others feted on Women’s Day

Mangaluru, Mar 8: The Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy in association with Muslim Mahila Sahitya Sanghaon Thursday observed International Women’s Day by holding seminar, poetry meet and felicitating achievers.
 
Social worker Khairunnisa Sayed, young English poetess Mafazah Sharafuddin, and rank holder Ayishat Rafeeza were given a warm felicitation on the occasion for their achievements in various fields.
 
The event was held at Talent Research Foundation Auditorium in the city. Inaugurating the programme, Academy president Karambar Mohammed said that women deserve 50 percent reservation in the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies.
 
Academy members Basheer Baikampady, Husain Katipalla, Mohammed Arif Padubidri, and registrar Chandrahas Rai were present at the inaugural session.
 
A seminar on ‘Atrocities on women, reasons and solutions’ was held. Sameena Afshan, president of Sangha, presided over. Ruksana U presented paper. Shahanaz M and Mumtaz Pakkaladka were present.
 
Poetry meet
 
The multi-lingual poetry meet was presided over by Ayisha U K. Shameema Kuttar (Beary), Shabeena Banu Y K (Kannada), Asma Bajpe (Beary), Zulaikha Mumtaz (Beary), Felsi Lobo (Konkani), Sameena Afshan (Urdu), Roopakala Alva (Tulu), Shifa K M (Beary) recited poems. Maryam Ismaeel was moderator.

Bengaluru, Mar 30: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Sunday convened an all-party meeting and apprised the Opposition leaders about the measures taken by the government to contain the coronavirus in the state.

"I have been regularly holding meeting since March 13 regarding the measures taken to contain the transmission of COVID-19," the chief minister said at the meeting at the Vidhana Soudha.

Health Minister B Sriramulu, Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar, IT-BT Minister C N Aswath Narayan, Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi, former chief minister and Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah, Opposition MLAs H D Revanna, D K Shivakumar and former speaker K R Ramesh Kumar attended the meeting.

The chief minister said a task force comprising ministers and officials has been formed to oversee the implementation of the government orders.

Yediyurappa highlighted the prevailing situation across the globe saying that normal life had been paralysed everywhere.

The chief minister also apprised them about the number of clinics all over the state, availability of medicines and protection gear for the doctors and quarantine rooms in the state.

Bengaluru, Mar 3: Minister of Medical Education K Sudhakar on Tuesday said that there is no need to panic as appropriate measures have been taken by the state government to tackle a possible Coronavirus outbreak.

"I request the media not to spread panic and support the government in dealing with any possible Coronavirus outbreak. With the help of the Centre we have taken all required precautionary measures to deal with any situation," Sudhakar told reporters.

Talking about the first confirmed case in Telangana, who had stopped over in Bengaluru, the Minister said, "His flatmates and 23 people who travelled with him from Karnataka are being screened. Both the state (Karnataka and Telangana) government are taking care of them."

"Out of the 295 samples collected so far, 240 tested samples tested negative. We are awaiting more results as of now. There are two labs. One in RGICS and another in Bangaluru Medical College where tests are being carried out," he said.

On Monday, the first confirmed case of a Novel Coronavirus in Telangana was reported from Hyderabad when a 24-year-old man, who had come in contact with some Hong Kong citizens, while he was in Dubai on February 17, tested positive for the virus.

After arriving in Bengaluru on February 20 and travelled to Hyderabad by bus on February 22.

Meanwhile, Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajender on Sunday said that the state government is on a high alert since the confirmation of one Coronavirus positive case here.

The Health Department has also issued an advisory to all educational institutes.

Bengaluru, Apr 19: The Karnataka government on Saturday ordered 2 lakh Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits from DHB Global and 1 lakh from other major pharmaceuticals, for the healthcare warriors treating coronavirus patients.

According to the State Health Department, these PPEs have 10 components as per global standards like a face mask to prevent healthcare professional from any liquid sprays, goggles for additional safety, N95 masks for protection of nasal and mouth areas, surgical masks, nitrile gloves, coverall suit, shoe cover, waste disposable bag, plastic apron, and protective gear.

Each of the products should have the relevant certificate from the Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) or equivalent certification.
