Mangaluru: Mescom officer Rahman ends life by jumping off Netravati bridge

Mangaluru, Dec 15: In a tragic incident, an officer of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. has allegedly killed himself by jumping into Netravati river from a bridge near Thokkottu on National Highway 66.

The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. on Thursday. The deceased has been identified K Abdul Rahman (58), a resident of Attavar in Mangaluru, who was working as section officer of Mescom at Shirva in Udupi district. He had received orders of transfer to Byndoor.

It is learnt that after his transfer to Shirva he used to visit his family at Attavar during weekend holidays. Last Saturday too he had visited home and returned to Shirva on Monday.

Police are trying t find out why did he go to bridge near Thokkottu on Thursday and jumped to the river. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.

The family is in shock after the incident. Accoridng to sources, the wedding of Rahman’s daughter, who recently completed her engineering degree, is expected take place in April 2018. His younger son is pursuing engineering in Mangaluru.

Belagavi, Mar 7: Karnataka Urban Development Minister B A Basavaraj on Saturday said that government would a take decision very soon regarding conducting city corporations election in the state.

Speaking with the media after review meeting at Belagavi city corporation (BCC) here he further said that delimitation exercise of the wards has to be done followed by reservations.

The minister stated that discussions would be held with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and would arrive at a decision to conduct the election in about a month’s time.

Udupi, May 19: Within minutes after health and family welfare department announced four fresh covid-19 cases in Udupi district, a girl who had come from central part of Karnataka tested positive for the coronavirus thereby taking the count of cases detected after last evening to five. 

With this the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in the district rose to 16. Three among them have recovered. One patient died last week. There are 12 active cases. 

According to sources, the 17-year-old girl from Chitradurga had visited KMC hospital in Manipal for cancer treatment on May 16. 

Her throat swabs were sent for corona testing on the following day. Today she obtained a positive report. Hence, she was shifted to Dr TMA Pai Covid hospital.

Mangaluru, May 24: A 42 –year-old man who was the secondary contact of P 1233 has been tested positive for COVID 19, in Dakshina Kannada on Sunday.

The man is being treated at the designated COVID-19 hospital in Mangaluru. With this, DK has registered a total of 66 positive cases with 34 active cases.

P 1233 was a 30-year-old man who had inter-state travel history from Maharashtra, said DK DC Sindhu B Rupesh.

The news case took the district's covid tally to 66 and 34 of them are active cases.
