Mangaluru: ‘National Integration Day’ celebrated

‘National Integration Day’ was celebrated by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangalore, Ministry of Youth affairs & sports, Government of India, in association with Father Muller Charitable Institutions and the Student Development Committee jointly organised program.

This was followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp, lit by the dignitaries on the dais, who included, the Chief Guest, Lt.Col.Gracian Sequeira, Director, Fmci, Rev Fr.Richard Coelho, District Youth Coordinator,NYK Mangalore, Mr Raghuveer Souterpete, Staff-Advisor-in-charge, Student Development Committee, Fmmc, Dr.Sanjay.J.Fernandes and the Student Head, Student Development Committee, Mr.Kevin Menezes.

Mr Raghuveer Souterpete, spoke about integrating youth and motivated youth to join their hand in nation building.

The presidential address was delivered by Rev.Fr.Richard Coelho, who stressed on the importance of coming together, despite religious, regional, linguistic and socio-economic diversities.

Chief Guest, Lt.Col.Gracian Sequeira, from the Karnataka Battalion, NCC, Mangalore, highlighted about his personal experiences at the battlefield, bloodshed all around and bullets whizzing past him, made us realise, how precious life is and that religion, caste, region, language bear no semblance, when one’s life is at stake. Hence, we must all rise as one, helping each other in times of need, even if strangers, maintaining the integrity of this nation.

In the program more than 300 students were part of the program.

It concluded with a sweet vote of thanks by Mr. Kevin Menezes, followed by the institutional anthem.

The programme was meticulously compered by Mr. Jeffrey.

Chikmagalur, April 5: BJP Lok Sabha MP from Udupi Chikmagalur Shobha Karandlaje on Saturday claimed that "efforts to spread coronavirus throughout the country" began at Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi and termed it as "corona jihad".

"Efforts began at Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi to spread coronavirus throughout the country.

Most of the attendees of that event are untraceable. There seems to be 'corona Jihadi plan' behind that meeting," she said while speaking to reporters here.

Meanwhile, according to officials, out of the seven new cases from Mysuru, two cases are connected to the Jubilant Generics cluster while the rest five cases have a travel history to Delhi.

Total positive cases of COVID-19 in India stand at 3072.

Belgaum, Jan 1: Police detained a group of around eight people who were allegedly trying to hoist 'Uttara Karnataka flag' in Hire Bagewadi area here on Wednesday.

This comes amid tensions between Karnataka and neighbouring Maharashtra over the border issue with protests on both sides, which have also led to the cancellation of bus services between the two states.

Protesters in Belagavi burnt an effigy of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, following which Shiv Sena workers had launched a protest near the Kolhapur bus stand on Sunday, and burnt an effigy of Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.

The long-standing border dispute between the two states over is pending before the Supreme Court for several years.

On December 7, Thackeray had chaired a high-level meeting over the border dispute between two states. It was decided in the meeting that attempts will be made to get fast track hearing in Supreme Court on the issue.

Kanhangad, May 10: Kasaragod district has become free from COVID-19 on Sunday.

The last remaining patient has been tested negative for coronavirus, said district medical officer Dr. A. V. Ramdas.

He added that the officials are proud to have been able to cure all 178 COVID-19 patients in the district.
