Mangaluru: Prakash Raj to launch Karavali Utsav; beach fest to mark yearend

Mangaluru, Dec 20: Multilingual actor and activist Prakash Raj will inaugurate the 'Karavalli Utsava 2017' being held in Mangaluru this month.

The 10 day utsav will be held from December 22 to 31 at Karavali Utsav ground.

District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai told media persons on Wednesday that as part of the Beech utsav, a beech fest will also be held from December 29 to 31.

A variety of cultural pragrammes are scheduled between December 22 and 31 on the occasion of Karavali Utsav. The cultural programmes will be presented by the budding local artists of Dakshina Kannada district, other parts of Karnataka and nationally and internationally acclaimed artistes. They include Carnatic Classical Music, Hindustani Classical Music, Light Music, Bharatanatyam, Dance Drama, Magic Show, Yakshagana, Talamaddale and Tulu Drama.

The programme will begin with a cultural procession from Nehru Maidan at 3.30 pm on December 22 followed by inauguration at Karavali Utsav Maidan at 6 p.m. on that day.

Bengaluru, Feb 13: Veteran freedom fighter and advisor to the Karnataka Government in Education Reforms HS Doreswamy on Thursday has recommended Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to make it mandatory for MLA and MLCs to adopt at least three govt Schools in their respective constituencies.

Mr Doreswamy appealed to the Chief Minister to implement the suggestion in the State budget for 2020-21 to be presented by him on March 5.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Doreswamy, on the higher education sector, stressed the need to appoint highly qualified candidates for Vice Chancellor posts. There is no dearth of talent and eligibility in the State and authorities concerned must ensure that the right person is appointed by taking extreme care".

Mangaluru, Jun 25: In a shocking development, as many as five post-graduate (PG) doctors have tested positive for coronavirus in Mangaluru. 

The one male and four female doctors – all aged around 28 years – are asymptomatic and are being treated at the designated covid hospital in the city.

All the five PG doctors of Kasturba Medical College were deputed at Govt. Lady Goschen Hospital and District Wenlock Hospital (Covid Hospital).

Meanwhile, around 30 medicos have been quarantined.

According to sources, the five doctors were staying in a residential apartment in the city. The apartment is likely to be sealed.

Udupi, Jul 14: Kundapura police in Karnataka have booked a case against a businessman who had violated home quarantine rules as many as 163 times.

Accused Sahab Singh had arrived at his rented house at Koteshwara from Mumbai on June 29. He was asked to remain quarantined in his house till July 13. 

However, he was found loitering and visiting hotels in Udupi. Officials tracked his movement through mobile GPS. He breached the quarantine period 163 times. 

Following the violation, Flying Squad officer N G Bhat filed a complaint against Singh in Kundapura Police Station under IPC Sections 269, and 270.
