Mangaluru: Preparations begin for regional Catholic convention

Mangaluru, Aug 6: Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza the Bishop of Mangaluru inaugurated the preparations for four days of Karnataka Regional level Convention to be held in the month of November 9th to 12th  on the occasion of Golden Jubilee of Catholic Charismatic Renewal worldwide by releasing the posters on 6th August at Bishop’s house. The Bishop in his message wished well for the preparation and also success for the convention.

The year 2017 being the year of Golden Jubilee of Catholic Charismatic Renewal worldwide the Karnataka Regional level Service Team has planned to organize a convention in Mangalore from 9th to 12th November. The Charismatic Renewal has brought showers of blessings on the Catholic Church at large and particularly to the Catholic Church in Mangaluru. The Charismatic Movement has infused a lot of spiritual strength into the traditional minded Catholics and has brought in a lot of change in the life of Catholics. Hence it is an occasion to celebrate the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The four days programme will have two parts i.e. training in the morning to 500 leaders from 14 dioceses of Karnataka and Convention in the evening from 4pm to 8 pm in which 10,000 are expected to participate. The Convention will be held at Rosario Cathedral grounds. In preparation for the convention intercessory prayers will be held in all the parishes of the diocese and also in fourteen diocese of Karnataka. Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza the Bishop of Mangalore will officially inaugurate Convention and Most Rev Dr Bernard Moras the Archbishop of Bangalore will celebrate the concluding Holy Mass. Other bishop’s from Karnataka will celebrate Holy Mass on other days in turn. Eminent preachers under the leadership of Most Rev Dr Lawrence Mukkuzzy  Bishop of Belthangady will preach the Word of God on all the four days.

Fr Onil D’Souza the Convener of the Convention gave a brief information on the preparation and the Convention to be held. Mr Arun Lobo the Chairman of Mangalore Service team welcomed the gathering. The members of Mangalore Service team were present on the occasion. Mrs Berdie Mascarenhas proposed the vote of thanks.

Palakkad, Jun 1: An 11-month-old boy, whose parents are placed under COVID-19 quarantine, drowned in a bucket of water in Chalissery at Palakkad district.

The toddler Muhammed Nisan was the son of Muhammad Sadiq. The parents of the child are under home quarantine after Sadiq's brother, who is living in the same home was tested positive of COVID-19.

The child was found dead in a bucket of water kept in the bathroom on Saturday around 10 pm.

Chalissery police said that ''further actions will be taken only after the test result comes out. We have filed an unnatural death case on this.''

Since the family has been quarantined, the body of the baby has been shifted to the Thrissur Medical College for COVID-19 testing.

Mangaluru, Jun 19: A repatriation flight from Doha brought 178 passengers to Mangaluru today. This is the first flight operated from Qatar to Mangaluru under the Vande Bharat Mission. 

The Air India Express flight, which took off from Hamad International Airport in Doha at 12 noon (Qatar time) landed at Mangaluru International Airport around 6.30 pm IST.

Indian embassy had prepared the list of passengers to be flown in the flight. Stranded people who were in need of emergency repatriation such as pregnant women, senior citizens and those in need of emergency medical treatment were given priority while finalising the list of passengers. 

Kannadiga organisations in Qatar such as Karnataka Sangha, Tulu Kuta Qatar, Karnataka Muslim Welfare Association, Mangalore Cricket Club, Bunts Qatar, Mangalore Cultural Association, South Canara Muslim Welfare Association, Qatar Billawas had been striving for the repatriation of stranded Kannadigas by exerting pressure on the elected representatives to operate flights. 

Kannadigas in Qatar have thanked former Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Jayaprakash Hegde for persuading the authorities concerned to facilitate the repatriation.

Bengaluru, Jul 8: 15 police personnel from Bangalore's Whitefield division tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Out of these, 12 are from the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) police station, sources said.

A total of 27 police staff of the Whitefield division have tested positive so far and five have been discharged. The HAL police station closed on June 27 after one police staff tested COVID positive. All personnel of the police station were tested in the following days and 12 tests returned positive.
