Mangaluru: Road rage sparks clash after PM Modi rally; stones pelted at bus; 7 arrested

Mangaluru, Apr 14: A minor accident at Kuthar on the outskirts of the city led to a group clash thanks the involvement of BJP activists who were returning in a bus after attending the rally of PM Narendra Modi at Nehru Maidan in the heart of the city last night.

According to sources, an altercation broke out after collision between a car and a motorbike at Madani Nagar in Kuthar. Meanwhile, BJP workers returning from Nehru Maidan stopped their bus to support one of the two groups. Meanwhile, unidentified miscreants pelted stones at the bus.

Some of those who injured in the clash have been identified as Ajmal, a resident of Madani Nagar, Sujan and Nahush, both residents of Kumpala.

Following this, a large number of BJP workers staged a protest outside Konaje police station. The police have assured all the protesters gathered at the station that strong action will be taken against the accused.

City police commissioner Sandeep Patil, DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya, and DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth visited spot.

The police commissioner said that an FIR has been registered. “We have taken the incident seriously. So far seven persons have been arrested by the police. We will arrest other accused soon,” he said.

Karnataka orders 3 lakh PPE kits for healthcare warriors

Bengaluru, Apr 19: The Karnataka government on Saturday ordered 2 lakh Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits from DHB Global and 1 lakh from other major pharmaceuticals, for the healthcare warriors treating coronavirus patients.

According to the State Health Department, these PPEs have 10 components as per global standards like a face mask to prevent healthcare professional from any liquid sprays, goggles for additional safety, N95 masks for protection of nasal and mouth areas, surgical masks, nitrile gloves, coverall suit, shoe cover, waste disposable bag, plastic apron, and protective gear.

Each of the products should have the relevant certificate from the Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) or equivalent certification.

District admin urged to find sources of Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, May 2: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Spokesperson P V Mohan on Saturday urged the district administration to find the source of coronavirus in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district.

He asked the district administration to ascertain from where a woman from Bantwal's Kasba contracted virus on April 19.

''We do not want to convert Dakshina Kannada into Nanjangud,'' Mr Mohan said referring to the mysterious case of Patient 52 from Nanjangud who has been identified as the main source of virus to the rest of the positive individuals in Nanjangud.

Need a law to shoot at sight those raising anti-India slogans: B C Patil

Bengaluru, Mar 2: Karnataka Minister BC Patil on Monday repeated his earlier statements that he will approach the Centre to bring a law to "shoot at sight" anyone who raises anti-India slogans.

"I am not going back on my statement as I have not said anything wrong. I had said that I will ask the central government to bring a law to shoot at sight those who shout slogans against India. Nowadays it has become a fashion for some youths to get popularity this way which spoils the country and patriotism," Patil told reporters here.

"There is nothing wrong in asking for a law. I have not said that I will myself shoot someone who shouts slogans against India. If the same thing happens in Pakistan, they will be beheaded. But we are not so brutal, we book a case and send them to judicial custody," he added.

Patil also said that there was no need for holding discussions over the amended Citizenship Act, but added that the ruling BJP will defend it if the opposition raises a stir in the state Assembly.

The budget session of the Karnataka Assembly began on Monday.
