Mangaluru: Schoolboy waiting for bus killed in accident

Mangaluru, Jan 30: A pickup vehicle rammed into a schoolboy who was waiting for a bus on the roadside killing him near Boliyar on the outskirts of the city yesterday. 

The deceased has been identified as Pratyush (7), son of Shankar of Boliyar Ammemmar. He was a Class 2 student at Kalladka school.

Pratyush’s mother had accompanied him to the bus stop on Tuesday morning. The bus driver reportedly told the boy that there was no school on Tuesday. He was waiting on the roadside to go back to his home, when the pick-up vehicle knocked him down.

Mangaluru South traffic police registered a case against pick-up vehicle driver.

Mangaluru, Aug 1: Former member of Karnataka Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. 

The Congress leader took to social media to break the news. “I and my wife Dr Kavitha have been tested positive covid-19 positive. There are no symptoms. We had voluntarily given our throat swabs for testing,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also requested his friends and well-wishers not to visit him until he recovers. 

Mr D’Souza had participated in a party meeting at Congress Bhavan when KPCC chief DK Shivakumar visited city yesterday. He was seen meeting several Congress leaders including U T Khader.

Bengaluru, Feb 19: Karnataka Forest Minister Anand Singh on Wednesday said that there was no criminal case filed directly against him.

When asked about PIL filed in the Karnataka High Court against him, Singh told media: "Some lawyer has filed a PIL against me in the High Court. I cannot stop anyone from filing the PIL."

"I have given my criminal record. There is no criminal case directly filed against me. My name is there in some cases but in 'others category'. We will see what happens," he said.

When asked about Congress leader Siddaramaiah's comments criticising him for being given the forest portfolio, Singh said: "I cannot comment on what he said against me as he is a former chief minister and very senior leader."

"Also the opposition always tries to make allegations against me. That is why he criticised me," he said.

Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah on Monday demanded that Forest Minister Anand Singh should either be expelled from the ministry or assigned a different portfolio.

A number of cases are pending against Singh including those registered under the Karnataka Forest Act.

Belagavi, Jun 25: Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi on Wednesday said that coronavirus was created to "scare us" and to create tensions on the border, in an apparent reference to China.

He said that everyone should learn to live with the virus and follow all norms needed to combat the disease.

"We all know who created the coronavirus. It was created to scare us and to create tensions on the border, we know who did it. We have to learn to live with the coronavirus. We do not need to be scared of it. We must maintain social distancing and follow all the sanitation norms," Angadi told reporters here.

Karnataka on Wednesday reported 397 new COVID-19 positive cases, taking the total count in the state to 10,118.

According to the state health department, the state's death toll has reached 164 after 14 fatalities were reported. As many as 6,151 people have been discharged so far.
