Mangaluru: Sex racket busted; four held, 2 women rescued

Mangaluru, Oct 14: The City Crime Branch of Mangaluru City Police on Saturday busted a prostitution racket by arresting two agents and two clients from an apartment in Kadri in the city.

The police also rescued two women, who were used in the business by the agents.

Acting on a tip-off that prostitution was being carried out on the fifth floor of an apartment in Karangalpady here, the CCB police raided the flat and nabbed the accused.

The arrested are Santhosh Kumar, 32, a resident of Kavalapadooru, and Asha G, 23, of Davanagere, who were allegedly running the racket. Meanwhile, police also arrested clients Deepak, 26, of Bejai - Kapikad, and Naveen, 40, from Permannooru.

A sum of Rs 31,500, seven mobile phones and two two-wheelers, totally costing Rs 2,06,100, have been recovered. Police said Asha had housed women for the business at the flat in question and ran the racket with the help of Santhosh.

The arrested and valuables seized from them have been handed over to the Mangaluru East police for further investigation.

Police Dept must take strict action and for the sake of our district and Tulunadus DIGNITY and RESPECT book them all under non bailable act if reuqire oublich their photographs in all avaiable news paper and in media.

Bengaluru, May 12: The South Western Railway on Tuesday informed that a 'Shramik special train' has left Karnataka for Bihar carrying 1,428 migrants onboard.

The special train carrying migrants to Motihari, Bihar departed from Kabaka Puttur in Karnataka.

Passengers were observing social distancing norms during boarding.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had recently granted permission for movement of stranded citizens including migrants labourers, workers, students, tourists to return to their native towns.

As per the list provided by the Karnataka government, South Western Railway is arranging special trains. These special trains are being run from point to point with no stoppages en-route.

Kota, May 9: Karnataka Yakshagana Academy has come to the rescue of artists in distress due to cancellation of all Yakshagana festivals following coronavirus outbreak and clamping of lock-down.

The academy spends lakh of rupees every year from the money sanctioned to it on training new artists, performances and documentation. However, no such activity was undertaken due to COVID-19. Hence, the academy is discussing to transfer a large amount of money to Yakshagana artists as emergency aid, Academy President Prof M A Hegde said here.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said that along with this aid the donations by the public and Yakshagana admirers too could be given to the artists.

Udupi, Jan 11: A case has been registered against Pune Billava president on the charges of issuing life threats to former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and Dinesh Amin Mattu at the Udupi Town Police station, police sources said on Saturday.

Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake along with like-minded Billawa organisations and the Udupi Muslim Federation jointly scheduled an inter-religious Billawa – Muslims Harmony meet on January 11, at the Town Hall.

Journalist Dinesh Amin Mattu was the speaker and Vinay Kumar Sorake was to preside over the programme.
