It is learnt that the accident took place when the driver of the car, plying towards the city from Mangaluru International Airport, was trying to negotiate a curve at Padavinangady.

It is said that the driver, who was speaking on his mobile phone, couldn't notice a heavy vehicle coming from the opposition direction.

While negotiating the curve the driver turned his car to the extreme left to avoid collision. As a result, the car plunged off the road, over turned and landed in a ravine.

The ill-fated Skoda has been badly damaged after the accident. However, the car driver, said to be a doctor, escaped with minor injuries. More details are awaited.
