March 29, 2016

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Several people were hospitalised with injuries after a group of miscreants belonging to local Sunni' faction barged into a Salafi conference and created ruckus near Montepadavu Badria Juma Masjid under the limits of Konaje Police Station on the outskirts of the city.

The injured have been identified as Hakeem Montepadavu, Abbas Kadaba, Haneef Kadaba, Hasan Mukri, Umar Bail, UT Shoukat-all from Sunni faction, and Abdul Azeez, Husan Fahad, Ismaeel Samanige, Faizal, Fahad, Imran, Jalli Abbu and Mohammed-all belonging to Salafi faction. Among them UT Shoukat and Ismaeel have suffered severe injuries.

It is learnt that the local unit of a Salafi organisation had arranged a week-long religious programme in and around Konaje. On Sunday evening it had organised a public meeting at a government ground at Montepadavu after obtaining permission from the authorities concerned.

The programme had almost come to the end and the last speaker KE Suhail Abdullah had been delivering the keynote address on Thouheed'. All of a sudden a group of 50 extremists allegedly belonging to Sunni faction began to throw stones and soda water bottles at the gathering. This led to a clash between two groups.

It is learnt that when the programme commenced, police had tightened the security in the area. However, when the programme was about to finish, the police left for another place. The miscreants seized this opportunity to barge into the conference venue and unleash violence.

Two separate complaints have been lodged at the Konaje police station. Police said that they have taken two persons into the custody among the 14 injured.

This is the influence of BJP's friendship with AP Usthad and Sunni group.
Sunni has no guts to debate with Salafi or Thableek on the base of Quran and Hadeeth.

Sunni is still running under darkness. Instead of calling sunni or salafi, try to prove as muslim by reading and understanding quran and hadeeth, and implant in your life.

Whoever said we fight with each other are totally wrong. This is an attack from one group only On those people who are trying to spread the actual message of islam that says Pray to Allah only. The very first chapter of quran clears everything. And all those who oppose are people who have totally misunderstood and lost faith in Quran.
Sunni has taken very drastic route to fight the people of thouheed when it failed to justify through Quran and hadees for what they are doing like darga, mawlid, waseelah etc. this is a sign of failure nothing else.. And as said in Quran falsehood is bound to perish!! But no matter what Allah is with the true believers!!

Sunnis are becoming arrogant and trying to crush all others who are opposing them. Ulemas in this factions are not doing much to end so many superstitious beliefs and exploitation in the name of religion. They are not addressing the social issues which are causing damage to our society yet again its all unislamic too. If Salafi's are doing their function, why sunnis to there and ransack. It clearly indicates that their mind set is instigated by their Ulemas. As far as I know Salafis are only opposing some of the ill practices which are unislamic but we borrowed from other communities. Such as 1. Dowry - Totally not in Islam but very rampant in other communities. We borrowed it but Sunni ulemas are silent. They are not opposing it. 2. Practicing bidaat like visiting shrines, muslim swamis etc instead of praying to Allah. Hidden benefit to some factions of society - so one is opposing. 3. There are many harams being practiced by some members of society instead of opposing those things they are opposing Salafis etc. They should strongly oppose drinks and many other haram practices in our society. I am sure those attackers may not be praying 5 times but they want to oppose salafis. Very very Contradicting.

Grave worshiping must stop. Shirk must stop. Allah will not give another opportunity to us anymore. Stop sleeping on real issue. Ponder on religion. Start calling yourself Muslim rather than salafi or sunni. We are all to blame for not conveying true message of Islam to our own people. May Allah Guide Us All

there is a old proverb in Tulunadu in Tulu \ JAATHIG JAATHI PAGE , NAIG NAI PAGE\" , regardless of hindu and muslims , this is common in Dakshina Kannada.
If any organization who makes programme , whatever they speak one should not go and attack them. Those who attack are called\"terrorists\".
You can take many examples if Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat or similar extremists speaks against muslims in the public speech, no organization, or no muslims go there and attack them, at the same time SDPI party organizers who speak against RSS and Kalladka Bhat in the open function infront of DC office, never RSS people go there and attack the speaker or audience.

Nobody is above the law and nobody in this earth equal to GOD or Prophets. We have seen Swamies, Thangals, Priests ... were doing immoral activities and some are in the jail too.

It is our big mistake that we have imported from nearby Kerala all these politics. These groups are all from Malayalees influenced in
Mangalore religious activities. It is very hard now to eliminate these kerala groups. Because they have already poisoned our common people.
It is unfortunate that in Mangalore some educated so called muslim leaders (businessmen) are supporting these elements. Even one of the University Chancellor too behind these people , going each and every dargas etc. It is shameful.
Now it is the time to unite and fight against the terrorists and facist by joining hands together with other community members but not fighting within the groups."

Some organisation mus take up the cause of creating awareness among Muslim youths about drug abuse and alcoholism now.

Im a MUSLIM....
When somebody is talking about ALLAH and giving knowledge about ALLAH and its prophet... STOP and LISTEN carefully what they say about ALLAH and his prophets....
May be he is saying GOOD and with ignorance, YOU might stop the message of our Prophet Mohammad pbuh reaching out to the PUBLIC...which will have ACCOUNTABLE infront of our CREATOR...
STOP looking other MUSLIM as Sunni, Salafi, Mujahid, Jammat... (Dont ACT like the people of JAHILIYA...) LOOK every MUSLIM as a MUSLIM...and avoid traping to shaitan's trick of DIVISION.
There might be a difference of OPINION, even the SAHABAS had.. But they didn't fight each other.
When Prophet Muhammad pbuh said to take care of the neighbors ( He did not say only MUSLIMs... even if your neighbor is a NON MUSLIM, We should follow the advise of the best of HUMAN and the messenger of ALLAH & treat our neighbor in the best way..).

When people started to preach about True Islam definitely there will be some one to oppose, because for some innocent people they cannot Digest the TRUTH.Even Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) used to face such incidents during his time.Even his Own family used to curse him.Prophets uncle cursed him by saying 'Thabbalaq ya Muhammed' (You may Destroy),But at the end Almighty Allah Destroyed his Uncle itself. So no need to worry about all this. After all this is nothing compare to our Beloved Prophet Muhammed PBUH. He faced more then this.

Be patiece and do not quite Preaching Truth to entire Humanity.Because Islam is for all.It will benefit life after death. In sha allah

Dont understand when will the muslims ever become smart! Guys, just follow what you beleive.. Why try to impose on others? Let Sunnis do maulood or visit dargahs or even do ratib.... Why try to be judge? Let Allah decide whats wrong and right... Its been 1400 years since the Islam came through Prophet Muhammed and in the time of Sahabis, the sect Shia came into existence... Since 1400 years the Shias are still in this world and no Salafis or Sunnis could ever convince them and bring them to main stream Islam!! Then, why the hell are we fighting now among our self? Just practice what is good for you, let ALlah be the judge in the end...

Bengaluru, Mar 28: Sun Tsu, in 'The Art of War' speaks of a skilful general who can subdue his enemy without any fighting. This constitutes the ultimate triumph which is referred to as stratagem. Today, we would need one such when we are faced with the '21-day corona challenge' for India.
Nearly four weeks back, Dr Jyothsna Rao, Dr Gururaj Rao and I sat across the OPD in the afternoon at HCG Bengaluru discussing our ongoing cancer immunology research. While on this topic, we drifted into the discussion on the coronavirus. During this engaging discussion, we wondered the similarity of the enigma between the virus and cancer. I paused to ask Dr Jyothsna and Dr Guru - how we wish we could do something against this virus.
Dr Jyothsna is a PhD from NCBS and had worked under Dr Ralph Steinman, physician and researcher from Rockefeller University, who won the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the dendritic cell and its role in adaptive immunity in 2011. Dr Gururaj is a molecular and cell biologist who did his PhD at the Chapel Hill, University of North Carolina and is the Director of iCrest.
Jyothsna while hearing our perplexing conversation on the covid intervened, "Yes, surely. I think we should take a break from cancer and focus on the innate and adaptive immunity role in COVID-19."
Thus began this sincere attempt to relook the human immune system from the eyes of the COVID-19.
We have 10 types of immune cells at the least which are widely dispersed in millions across the body. When our body is invaded by a foreign organism (bacteria, fungi or virus), these cells work with each other to destroy the invader.
Now, the question is - how do the immune cells talk to each other? They use small-molecule substances called cytokines (cyto means cells; kine means movement). There are many cytokines that are involved in work on the immune system. The most relevant for viruses are interferons.
Interferons (IFN) as the name reflects have an ability to interfere with the viral activity and stop their multiplication. These specialised signal proteins are released by our cells in response to a viral attack to forewarn other cells. They help build the antiviral proteins within the cells to kill the virus as it tries to invade the new cells.
Historically, interferons are a group of cytokines known to be potent antiviral agents against viruses and a hallmark cytokine induced by the host upon viral infections. Interferons possess unique immunoregulatory activities and are signature cytokines released by (TH1) T immune cells, which are crucial in viral infections.
As the outbreak of COVID-19 grapples us, an urgent need for finding strategies to combat the virus is growing. Coronaviruses (CoVs) are a group of RNA viruses. In patients infected with coronavirus, it was indicated that the activation of the IFN does not occur until 48 hours post-infection. Thus the delayed IFN-related antiviral response by the healthy cells leads to coronavirus evade the immune response.
Numerous studies have presented the success in defeating CoVs by the direct administration of IFNs. In a combination as a concoction, it was shown to synergistically inhibit the virus replication in vitro.
Moreover, it is understood that the earlier induction of IFNs in children although they have a less developed immune system could be the reason behind the children being least affected.
The key to success in reducing the disease fatality might be the stimulation of the immune responses to trigger IFN production at the very early stages of the disease, which might be done through the administration of IFN. Despite the evidence for the efficacy of IFNs in treating CoV-induced infections, the proper dosing and ideal timing for such interventions needs to be verified in clinical trials.
For the later stages of the diseases in advance stages where patients are on ventilator and have developed respiratory distress, we propose to utilise the mesenchymal cells derived from donor bone marrow that have been known to treat acute respiratory syndrome. Mesenchymal cells are known to possess anti-inflammatory activity and thus used often in autoimmune diseases.
With this scientific background, we have activated T cells from healthy donors, in a cGMP facility at iCrest - HCG hospital with an enriched cocktail of cytokines rich in Interferons. Injections of this cocktail we believe will result in a surge of cytokines in the body of the infected person and will boost his ability to fight the virus in the early phases. We are in the initial phases of this study and hope to be ready in the coming weeks with meaningful data on its potential utility.
Currently, it awaits government approvals (Union and state) and we have applied to central drugs authority for their initial evaluation and further directions.
As my Guru often expounded the philosophy of 'Seva' - the goal of education is knowledge, the end goal of knowledge is service. In this attempt to serve our fellow humans at this brink of unprecedented crisis, medical fraternity stands with you and promises to do our best for your safety.
We assure to exhaust every bit of our spirit in this fight against coronavirus. We have lost the sight of shores and travelled thus far, but that is the mandatory first step to cross the ocean. Are we going to succeed in this battle, is something only time will answer.

Hubballi/Vijayapura, Feb 26: A 40-year-old resident of Talikoti town in Vijayapura was arrested on Tuesday and charged with sedition for allegedly saying 'I Love Pak Army' on a social media page and sharing a video of a song, 'Pakistan Zindabad'.

Police said they registered an FIR against Meru alias Merusab Hasansab Byagwat on a complaint filed by a contractor, Ashok Rathod of Nebgiri Tanda.

Byagwat has been booked under IPC sections pertaining to sedition (124A), promoting enmity between communities and making assertions prejudicial to national integration (153 A & B), among others.

In his complaint, Rathod said Meru had posted the video on his social media account on February 22. Rathod said he took a screenshot of the video and made some inquiries before approaching police.

Police said Meru would be produced in court soon.

Police said they are keeping a watch on pro-Pakistan activities. On Monday, slogans praising Pakistan surfaced on the walls of a government primary school in Budarsinghi. In the third week of February, three Kashmiri students shot a video hailing Pakistan and circulated it on social media in Hubballi.

Mangalore University has been participating in the campus bird count a sub-event of ‘Great backyard bird count’ (GBBC) organized by Bird Count India for the past 5 years. This year, CBC was held from 14th to 17th February of 2020 across various campuses in India.

This year the four days event was successfully ended up with the sightings of 103 species of birds from various locations across the campus spread on 300 acres. In this Black Drongo, Black Kite, Brahminy Kite, Common Iora, Green Wabler, Purple-rumed Sunbird, Red-whiskered Bulbul, White-cheeked Barbet, Jungle Babbler and Plum headed parakeets were the common birds, and also observed House Crow with nest and nestlings, Indian Robin nest with eggs, Bronzed Drongo constructing the nest and Shikra mating and carrying nesting materials.  Whereas Yellow-billed Babbler is rare in the campus, Ashy Drongo, Barn Swallow, Booted Eagle, Grey Wagtail, Indian Pitta etc. were migratory birds, Grey-headed Bulbul (Near Threatened bird), Rufous Babbler and Grey-headed Bulbul were Western Ghats Endemics  and Brown Wood Owl, Barn Owl, Spotted Owlet, Nightjars (Savanna, Indian and Jerdon’s) and Sri Lanka Frogmouth were nocturnal birds. Blue-eared Kingfisher Grey-bellied Cuckoo which was very rare and new additions to avian list of the campus.

In the first year (2016) of Mangalore University’s CBC recorded 77 species, in 2017 recorded 95 species, in 2018 recorded 110 species and in 2019 recorded 107 species of birds. However some of the common species like Rose ringed parakeets, Blue tailed bee-eater, Nilgiri Flowerpecker and Indian roller etc., sighted last year were not seen this year. But with 2 new additions from this CBC, the checklist of Mangalore University Campus has been updated with a total of 141 species.

This event was coordinated by Vivek Hasyagar from the Department of Applied Zoology and Maxim Rodrigues from the Department of Marine Geology. Survey trails were led by more than 60 students and research scholars from various Departments of Mangalore University includes Applied Zoology, Biosciences, Microbiology, Botany, Physics, Chemistry and Material Science.  In addition, some enthusiastic participants from St. Aloysius College had involved in identifying the birds around the campus.

Quote:

Wild/planned fire affects negatively on the existing ecologically sensitive areas in and around the campus especially in lateritic grasslands. Because many insectivorous birds are dependent on these lateritic grassland habitats for their food and breeding grounds for many ground dwelling birds like Yellow wattled lapwing, Red wattled lapwing, Indian Robin and Barred buttonquails. Conserving these habitats will be helpful in protecting these birds.

Quotes from the participants: “The Campus Bird Count 2020 at Mangalore University was an experience of its own kind. Observing birds in their natural habitat gave me new perspective of viewing them not only as another living being, but as equals, or even of higher intelligence. The Campus Bird Count is an important step towards documenting bird life year after year, and creating awareness amongst youngsters, so that proper conservation steps can be taken to protect them from human interference”.
