Mangaluru: Three youngsters held for demanding hafta

Mangaluru, Jul 18: Three associates of a notorious criminal have been arrested by the sleuths of City Crime Branch (CCB) in Mangaluru on charges of executing his demand for protection money (hafta) from a local resident.

53259802The arrested are Preetham (22) from Aakash Bhavan, Rithesh (19) from Malady Road, and Vishal Kumar (22) from Kunjathbail, Kavoor.

Mangaluru city police acted on a complaint lodged by the resident with Barke police station, and city police chief M Chandra Sekhar handed over the case to CCB police inspector Sunil Y Naik.

Among them Preetham is also wanted in a case of illegally entering a hotel in Mangaluru East police station limits and damaging its property.

The three were alleged associates of Gaurish, an accused in a murder case and presently in judicial custody. Gaurish had alleged y called the complainant on July 11 and demanded 'hafta' of Rs 25,000.

He also got his associates to call the complainant and reiterated the demand and also sent out a warning that he would be murdered if the demand was not met. The CCB team, which followed up the leads, arrested the trio.

Belagavi, Apr 12: Karnataka police have filed cases against seven people for hiding their visit to Delhi for attending a religious congregation at Nizamuddin Mosque, last month, police said on Sunday.

The Commissioner office here, in a statement said that Hirebagewadi police filed cases against seven persons including one participant and his family members and Tablighi leader for hiding information regarding participation in the religious meeting 'Tablighi Jamaat ' at Nizamuddin in New Delhi in March.

A youth from the Hirebagewadi village had visited New Delhi and hidden information about his visit and misguiding the Task Force officials when they visited his house. COVID-19 Task Force and Model officials informed the matter to Hirebagewadi police.

New Delhi, Jul 7: Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao's wife Tabu Gundu Rao informed that four of their employees have tested positive for coronavirus.

"Well sadly our PA, one more Gunman and 2 house staff tested positive. We are all thankfully negative but in isolation and quarantine for 10 to 14 days from today, to check if we develop symptoms as we are primary contacts to them. Hopefully we should get through this," Tabu tweeted.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 23,474 coronavirus cases in Karnataka including 13,255 and 372 deaths.

Mangaluru, Jan 8: A 23-year-old youth has been booked under the POCSO Act on charges of abduction and sexual abuse of a minor girl.

Police said on Wednesday day that the accused identified as Aneesh Dias, a resident of Chikkamadnur has reportedly gone absconding. The victim, who hails from Puttur, is a I PU college student.

The victim's parents had filed a missing complaint with Puttur Rural police as their daughter did not return home after leaving home for college. The police investigating the complaint traced the girl.
