Mangaluru, Mar 2: The traffic police today launched a citywide special drive against vehicles having black film on windshields and side glasses.
Dozens of drivers were caught and fined by the traffic police on the first day of the campaign. Black film was also removed from car windscreens on the spot.
The special started across the city since early morning, and expected to continue till late into the evening. According to police sources, as many as 143 cases were booked and Rs 14300 cash was collected as fine from the drivers by noon.
This comes a day after complaints received by the city police during its phone in programme against the tinted glasses on cars and vehicles plying without registration plates.
After yesterday’s phone in programme, Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil had asked the traffic police to escalate the drive and penalise owners/drivers of such vehicles besides removing the tint. Action will also be taken against the users of vehicles without registration plates, he assured the caller.
