Mangaluru: Two engineering students arrested on charge of drug peddling

Mangaluru, Jun 3: Two students of a private engineering college in the city have been arrested by the sleuths of Bajpe police station on charges of peddling drugs near the IT park at Ganjimath.arrest

Police identified the accused as accused as Malali from Bhatrakere, and Ahmad Asvad from Talangere

K M Shantharaju, DCP (law and order), Mangaluru said police Seized 10 packets of ganja weighing 95 grams and two wheelers from the accused. Value of the narcotics and vehicles seized is Rs 61,500.

Efforts are on to nab two more accused, who gave police the slip. The duo arrested as per a case registered under the NDPS Act, were produced before the jurisdictional court, which remanded them into judicial custody.

Udupi, Aug 6: Three people including police personnel entered a well and rescued an elderly woman who had accidentally fallen into Udupi on Thursday.

A police sub-inspector and two others got down into a well and rescued the elderly woman, who accidentally fell into well at near her home at Kukkikatte.

The locals immediately alerted to police and fire and rescue personal.

Udupi town police sub-inspector Sadashiva Govroji, fire and rescue staff Vinayaka and a local Auto-driver Rajesh Nayak got into the well and brought the woman out safely.

Bengaluru, Apr 1: The state government has identified five districts, including Dakshina Kannada, as 'cluster zones' or 'Red zones,' to prevent the spread of Novel Coronavirus.

The other four districts include Mysuru, Uttara Kannada, Bengaluru and Chikkaballapur.

Mangaluru has been under strict lockdown, as it is close to Kasargod in Kerala, which reported many positive cases and is also one of the 'hotspots' in the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) list.

Bengaluru, Jan 6: Activist Irom Chanu Sharmila took part in a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) at Sir Puttanna Chetty Town Hall here on Sunday.

Sharmila, who came in the protest along with her child, took part in a 'burqa and bindi' protest marking the birth anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule.

Protests have erupted across the country over the CAA which grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
