Mangaluru: Underworld rowdy Asgar Ali who had fled to Dubai arrested after 12 years

Mangaluru, Jun 15: The Mangaluru city police have finally managed to arrest notorious underworld rowdy Asgar Ali, who had fled to Dubai in 2007 on a fake passport.

A native of Ullal on the outskirts of Mangaluru, Asgar is an accused in at least 9 criminal cases including 2 sensational murder cases.

He was picked up today from Uppala of Kasaragod district of Kerala by police team led by Kankanady police inspector Jagadeesh and PSI Shyamsundar based on credible information that he has come to India.

The police have also arrested two of Asgar’s alleged aides – Nawaz and Rasheed  –  who allegedly made fake passport for him.

In 2005 Asgar was allegedly involved in murder of notorious rowdy Pollali Anantu. He was involved in murder of Target Group Illyas, another rowdy.

City police chief Sandeep Patil said that Asgar was in Dubai, and along with Dawood and others hatched conspiracy to kill. Also, after murder, he arranged hideout for accused in Mumbai. He was involved in many cases along with Rashid Malabari and he also had made threat calls for ransom, Patil said.

Patil said that detailed interrogation will be done about his activities in Dubai. Further investigation is underway to learn as to how many such fake passports they are involved in and unearth the fake passport racket.

Hubballi, Apr 16: Police have seized a vehicle carrying nine members of a family from Dharwad for misusing the travel pass issued by the district administration in Narendra Village and sent them for Quarantine.

Deputy SP Ravi Nayak and his team stopped the vehicle at Narendra village, in the outskirts of the city and found out that they were from Uppina Betagiri village returning from a wedding function using government pass issued for medical reasons.

The police seized the vehicle and sent them to KIMS hospital for a medical check-up. Their swab samples have been collected and sent for testing. The police have asked them to go for a compulsory home quarantine for 14 days.

Bengaluru, May 22: Uber said on Friday it has resumed its operations in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, and Hubballi, in compliance with Lockdown 4.0 guidelines issued by the Government.

Riders in Bengaluru can book UberAuto, UberGO, Premier, Intercity, Hourly Rental, UberXL, Access, and Assist on their Uber App.

UberAuto, UberGO, Premier, and Intercity are available in Mysuru, UberGO and Intercity services in Mangaluru, and UberAuto services in Hubballi.

Uber Intercity operations will be limited to travel with necessary authorisation and within state boundaries and permissible zones only, the company said in a statement.

Uber said it has launched comprehensive measures such as the distribution of PPE kits, including masks, sanitisers and disinfectants to drivers and the introduction of mandatory educational video courses for them.

Udupi, Jul 21: Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swami, the chief pontiff of Puthige Mutt, has tested positive for coronavirus. 

The pontiff got admitted into KMC Hospital Manipal last night and his treatment is in progress at the said hospital.

He was supposed to initiate his annual Chaturmasa Vruta at Padigaru Mutt on Tuesday.

According to sources, he was suffering from fever and hence he opted to get tested for covid-19. His health condition is said to be stable.
