Mangaluru Violence: KSHRC to hear on Dec 31

Mangaluru, Dec 27: The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) will conduct a hearing into the alleged police brutality during the December 19 anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) stir in Mangaluru on December 31.

The KSHRC had received complaints from Bengaluru-based Advocate Rakshith Shivaram, Mahila Congress national social media coordinator Lavanya Ballal, Bantwal Town Municipality councillors – Luqman Bantwal and Monish Ali urging them to initiate ‘suo motto’ action against the Mangaluru Police commissioner and other officers responsible for the "firing" which claimed two lives. They have also appealed to provide justice to the victims.

The city police violated the human rights guaranteed to the citizens of the country under the constitution as well as the UN Charter, it is stated in the complaint.

Mangaluru, Jan 17: An auto-mobile shop at Deralakatte here caught fire on Friday incurring huge loss on the shopkeeper.

According to police, the incident happened in the morning when the shop owner opened the shop.

Locals suspect that miscreants might have set the shop on fire and had escaped from the scene at night.

Kalaburagi, Feb 22: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Waris Pathan was booked for his alleged remark against the Hindu community in his speech during an anti-CAA rally held here recently, police sources said on Saturday.

According to police sources, the FIR was registered against the AIMIM leader, following a complaint lodged by a woman advocate on Friday evening.

Taking strongly about the incident, the Karnataka Home minister Basavaraj Bommai had directed the Kalaburagi city police commissioner to submit a report on the incident.

It may be recalled that the AIMIM leader, in his speech at a rally held in the city on February 15 had said that if all the 15 crore minority populations in the country stand united they could take on 100 crore Hindu population.

Bengaluru, May 11: Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar today held a video conference with Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja to discuss measures to tackle COVID-19.

The ministers discussed in detail the protocols for testing, quarantine and treatment for COVID-19 that are being followed by both the states.

The Karnataka Health Department on Monday said that 10 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the state, taking the total number of positive cases to 858.

"31 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus in the state and 422 persons have been discharged after recovery," the Health Department added.

Kerala, on the other hand, has tackled the coronavirus crisis better than most other states of the country. There are only 19 active cases of COVID-19 in the state while 489 people have recovered. The death toll in the state is 4, according to the data published by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday.
