Mangaluru Violence: KSHRC to hear on Dec 31

Mangaluru, Dec 27: The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) will conduct a hearing into the alleged police brutality during the December 19 anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) stir in Mangaluru on December 31.

The KSHRC had received complaints from Bengaluru-based Advocate Rakshith Shivaram, Mahila Congress national social media coordinator Lavanya Ballal, Bantwal Town Municipality councillors – Luqman Bantwal and Monish Ali urging them to initiate ‘suo motto’ action against the Mangaluru Police commissioner and other officers responsible for the "firing" which claimed two lives. They have also appealed to provide justice to the victims.

The city police violated the human rights guaranteed to the citizens of the country under the constitution as well as the UN Charter, it is stated in the complaint.

Udupi, Jul 26: Two persons including a lady doctor have been arrested by the Kaup police in Udupi district for trying to use fake salary documents to avail loan from a bank to buy a car. 

According to police, on July 24, the doctor had visited Bank of Baroda's branch office at Kaup Moodabettu. She had approached the branch manager for a car loan for herself and her brother. She claimed that her monthly salary is Rs 2.66 lakh.

The bank verified the details furnished along with the loan application. The bank found that even though the doctor had furnished salary slips of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, she was presently not employed there.

The bank manager has filed a complaint at Kaup police station, accusing the doctor of trying to cheat the bank by availing loan on the basis of fake documents.

The police registered a case and nabbed her when she visited the Katapady branch of the same bank today. The police also arrested a man, who according to the doctor, created fake documents for her.

Udupi, Mar 14: Amidst growing Coronavirus scare, a youth with suspected Coronavirus symptoms was admitted to Udupi District Hospital here, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Sudhir Chandrachud said.

According to him, A 37-year-old youth, a native of Shirwa, who works in a Japanese ship and was onboard a Japanese vessel that was recently blocked due to the coronavirus. However, he was left out on its way to Dubai, where he was diagnosed with coronavirus infection and he returned to his native.

However, he did not show any of the primary symptoms of coronavirus, such as cough, cold, fever, but he was suffering from diarrhea and abdominal pain with slight respiratory problems following which he has been admitted to an isolated ward in the district hospital here on Friday evening.

Mysuru, Feb 6: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Thursday said that he would consult experts in Ayurveda and other streams over coronavirus issue.

Speaking to the media here, he said that ''So far no positive case has been reported in the state''.

''However, the Health department officials have taken all precautionary measures to check the epidemic'', he further said.
