Mangaluru: Young cleric, on the way to mosque to teach his students, killed in mishap

Mangaluru, Nov 20: A young cleric and religious teacher lost his life in fatal road mishap that occurred at Ujjodi near Pumpwell in the city today.

The victim has been identified as Haafiz Tauseef Ahmed, a resident of Melkar-Rangelu near Panemangaluru in Bantwal taluk.

He is son of Abdul Hameed, a resident of Aladka in Melkar and grandson of Late Mammunhi of Kumbra in Puttur.

He was working as religious teacher at the Arabic madrasa in Taqwa Masjid of Pumpwell, Mangaluru. The tragedy occurred when he was on the way to the mosque to teach his students.

A case has been registered at Mangaluru South traffic police station and investigations are on.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC) Sindhu B Rupesh in an official reminder has ordered milk unions to disburse about 5,000 litres of milk to residents of notified and non-notified slums, construction labourers and migrant labourers and their families in shelters in the district.

A decision regarding the free distribution of milk to such needy families was taken in a meeting by the chief minister on April 1.

The DC has ordered cooperative milk unions in the district to distribute milk to such families from April 4 till April 14.

Bengaluru, Jun 8: The Janata Dal (Secular) on Monday announced that former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has decided to contest the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

"Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has decided to contest the Rajya Sabha elections at the request of our party legislators, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and many other leaders of the country. Tomorrow, he will be filing nomination for the election. Thanks to the former PM for agreeing to everyone's consensus," JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy said.

The elections to fill the vacant 18 Rajya Sabha seats from seven states are scheduled to be held on June 19.

Four Rajya Sabha seats are up for grabs in the state, Congress has already nominated senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge as its candidate.

The ruling BJP will field candidates for two seats.

Bengaluru, Jun 28: The Karnataka government on Saturday issued an order, directing private hospitals not to deny treatment to patients with coronavirus and COVID-19 like symptoms.

"Non-compliance of this order will attract punishment under sections of Disaster Management Act 2005," an order read.

Meanwhile, people coming from Maharashtra will be placed in seven-day institutional quarantine followed by seven-day home quarantine in Karnataka, the state government said.

People coming from other states will need to undergo 14-day home quarantine.
