The city police with assistance and cooperation from their counterparts in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are now hunting for the abductors of Mr Lazarus who was kidnapped by the gang from Bharatpur in Rajasthan on July 30 and rescued on August 1.

It is learnt that following an internet call that four generators are available at Bharathpura in Rajastan at low rate, Arun D'Souza had sent his assistant Mr Mr Lazrath to purchase the generator on July 28. He has been carrying out this business deal the last two months.

Mr Lazrath reached Bharathpura on July 30. The man who had promised to give the generator took him to an unknown place, called Arun and demanded Rs 10 lakh to release Mr Lazrath safely. Arun, with the help of Youth Congress leaders Prakash Pinto Kerebail and Pavan Raj Kolya appraised U T Khader of the situation.

The minister immediately spoke to City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar, who contacted IGP of Bharathpur, Alok Vasista. A team of police personnel from Mangaluru reached the location on August 1, and with the help of IGP, traced the phone location of Mr Lazrath. The location showed Basthan, a place bordering UP and Rajasthan.

When police searched Basthan, they were able to nab a local gangster Ijaz and two others of his Mubarik gang'. However, Mr Lazrath was not in their possession. When the news of arrest of Mubarik gang spread, the actual abductors panicked and dumped the Mangaluru youth at Goverdhan and fled the place.

Mr Chandra Sekhar told media persons on Wednesday that the after police team started raiding various gangs, the gang that had kidnapped Mr Lazrath had shifted him to seven places in and around Bharathpura and Mathura. The police have credible information on the gang and are confident of arresting them at the earliest.

It is learnt that Lazrath was tied in a field and was allegedly assaulted by the gang. According to Lazrath, 12 persons were in the gang that had kidnapped him.

The top cop called upon the public to be careful before making any business deal after getting a call from unknown persons. Such incidents are common in Bharathpur, and on border of Mathura. Earlier, the modus operandi was that the gang would call rich influential business men on the pretext of selling gold bricks at cheap rate and later abduct them and demand money for their release.

The city police commissioner said that a team of police officers with ASI Vijayraj and Head Constable Mohan are in Rajasthan with Richard Lazrath and another team has left for Rajasthan. He thanked the support of Bharathpur zone IGP Alok Vasishta, Agra Zone IGP Durgacharan Mishra for their support in cracking the case.

Prakash Pinto Kerebail, who is with the police team from Mangaluru, has thanked the timely intervention of the minister, which motivated the police to expedite the rescue operation. He also thanked City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar, DCP Shantharaj, ACP Shruthi and Bharatpura IG.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: The Karnataka State Board of AUQAF has ordered that management committees at Muslim Khabarastans, shall not refuse burial to Muslims died due to COVID-19.

"...in exercise the powers conferred under Waqf Act 1995, it is hereby ordered that management Committees/Muthawallies/Administrators responsible for the management of Muslim Khabarastans in the state of Karnataka irrespective of registered or unregistered in the Waqf, shall not refuse the burial of Muslims died due to COVID-19 pandemic," read an order from the Karnataka State Board of AUQAF on Thursday.

"They shall co-operate with all the Nodal Officers designated for this purpose regarding the decent burial. Non co-operation or refusal on the part of the management will be construed as an insult committed to the deceased. Any violation of the above order will attract the punitive provision of Indian Penal Code and removal from the management as per the provisions of the Waqf Act 1995," the order read.

It further said that the Waqf Officers, District Wakf Advisory Committees of the state, shall ensure the adherence of this order, and circulate the same to all the Khabarastan managements, registered or unregistered in the state.

"No further deliberation in this regard is solicited except compliance of the order in letter and spirit. Any dereliction in this regard will be viewed seriously," it read.

Giving a background on the issue of burial of COVID-19 deceased, the order read, "It is observed that, number of deaths are being occurred in various Districts of Karnataka, due to COVID-19 pandemic and it is reported that, some of the management committees of Khabarastan, are not cooperating to bury the dead bodies of COVID-19."

"A decent burial is a right of the dead person" as per the law of the land and the Islamic jurisprudence. It is needless to emphasize the importance of burial of Muslim dead bodies in Shariah. The dead body of a Muslim is treated with the utmost respect by the Ummah, joining in the funeral (Tadfeen), participating in the Namaz-e-Janaza and the burial are considered as Farz-e-Kifaya in Muslim law. According to the tradition of Islam, the person who participates in the funeral is entitled to Mountain sized reward (Sawaab)," the order read.

As per the order, the board, in its earlier circular had also cautioned the management of Waqf institutions and Khabarastan which were reluctant to allow the decent burial in the Khabarastan would be punished under the provisions of Indian Penal Code and the punitive provisions of the Waqf Act 1995 as well.

"The District Magistrates and the Superintendent of Police in the districts have been requested to prosecute the erring management committees who are responsible for non co-operation in this regard. Hence, the following order," it added.

Shivamogga, Feb 1: A three-year-old girl who fell out of a moving vehicle had a miraculous escape in Agumbe Ghat section in Teerthahalli taluk of Shivamogga district of Karnataka.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday when 12 members from three different families were returning from a tour of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The girl was reunited with her family after 30 minutes of high drama.

The child, identified as Anavi, is believed to have fallen from the vehicle as it negotiated hairpin bends on the Agumbe Ghat road, 350km from Bengaluru. The child's parents, Binu and Lincy, from NR Pura in Chikkamagaluru district, and other family members reportedly dozed off and did not realize the child had fallen off the vehicle until they covered a distance of about 20km.

One of the family members noticed that child was missing from the seat next to the door. When the driver realized the door latch had given way, they suspected the child could have slipped out of the vehicle.

Then the family started searching along the road and learnt from a forest guard at the Agumbe checkpost that a missing child was found and it had been handed over to Agumbe police station.

An advocate who identified himself as Vinay spotted the girl child as he passed the deserted stretch minutes after the vehicle left and picked her up and handed her over to Agumbe police.

The child sustained minor injuries in the fall. She was provided medical treatment before she was handed over to the parents.

Sources said it wasn't known how the vehicle door opened. One theory is that the girl could have accidentally unlocked the door while clutching the latch in the bumpy ride on the ghat. Police did not file any complaint.

Similar incident

This incident is almost a rerun of a Kerala incident in which a one-year-old baby fell off a moving jeep and was reunited with its mother hours later in September 2019 in Idukki district.

The baby had slipped off the mother's arms while she dozed off in the vehicle. CCTV footage showed the baby, after falling on the road, crawling towards a lit-up area close by, which turned out to be a forest checkpost. Family realised child was missing after 20km.
