Mangaluru youth dies in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, Sept 19: A young expatriate worker hailing from Natekal Urumani village on the outskirts of South Indian port city of Mangaluru, died of heart attack in Saudi Arabia.

Mohammad Ashraf (38) was buried at Naseem grave yard at Gornata in Riyadh region with the assistance of Karnataka Cultural Foundation after receiving consent from the family members.

He was working at a supermarket in Gornata for past few years. He suffered a massive heart attack in the wee hours of Sunday within a couple of hours after he slept in his room after his night shift.

He had got married during his last visit to Mangaluru a year ago. He was supposed to return home on a vacation on October 6.

Mangaluru, Jul 7: The residents of Bangle Gudde, Mathadagudde area in Gurupura Gram Panchayat in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, where two teen aged children were buried alive, were shifted to safer places.

District officials said on Tuesday that the residents have been provided temporary shelter in Gurpur school, PU college, and hostels, while few others were shifted to Ashraya centers. Total 40 houses out of 180 houses in this area located in the red zone were damaged due to heavy rain.

If the residents want to stay in the rented house, the revenue department is ready to pay a sum of Rs 2,500 towards rent, official sources said.

Tumuku, Jul 6: Senior Congress leader and Kunigal MLA Dr H D Ranganathm tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

The 48-year-old Congress legislature, a doctor by himself, was admitted to Manipal hospital and recovering, he said in a tweet.

Dr Ranganath said he took all precautions, yet could not save himself from the virus and advice people to not to take the contagion lightly.

Udupi, Jan 4: A 37-year-old Udupi district JD(S) spokesperson allegedly committed suicide at his residence here last night, police said on Saturday.

It identified the deceased as Pradeep G Bailoor (37).

He was working as the District JD(S) spokesperson for many years.
