Mangaluru youth dies in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, Sept 19: A young expatriate worker hailing from Natekal Urumani village on the outskirts of South Indian port city of Mangaluru, died of heart attack in Saudi Arabia.

Mohammad Ashraf (38) was buried at Naseem grave yard at Gornata in Riyadh region with the assistance of Karnataka Cultural Foundation after receiving consent from the family members.

He was working at a supermarket in Gornata for past few years. He suffered a massive heart attack in the wee hours of Sunday within a couple of hours after he slept in his room after his night shift.

He had got married during his last visit to Mangaluru a year ago. He was supposed to return home on a vacation on October 6.

Udupi, May 23: Five more persons tested positive for coronavirus in the coastal district of Udupi today. 

They include three men aged 37, 55, 31 and two women aged 48 and 34. 

Among them four are returnees from Mumbai and one is foreign returnee.

With this the total number of covid-19 cases in the district rose to 55.

Mangaluru, May 2:  Fishermen in the coastal districts fear that the fishing season ending on May 31 every year might be rescheduled early this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement department of fisheries on sturday said fishing season is closed for 61 days every year before the arrival of the monsoon.

As per the data with the Fisheries Department, this year the number of fishes caught has set a record.

Kalaburagi, Mar 9: As the International Women's Day was celebrated all across the globe, the Department of Post inaugurated the first-ever all-women-employees operating post office here in Kalaburagi.

"Today, we have declared the Jagat Post Office under the Kalaburagi district as women's post office. From today onwards, women staff is going to work here exclusively," CG Kamble, Assistant Superintendent, Post Office, told media.

One of the employees of the post office inaugurated on Monday said: "We are happy that we can work freely as all the employees here are women. Similarly, the government must also take steps to identify one of the offices in the state as only women employees' office."
