Mangaluru: Youth found dead inside newly bought car parked on highway

Mangaluru, May 3: In a shocking incident, a youth was found dead in the driver's seat of a car parked on a highway at Kuntikana in the city on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Kalandar (25), son of Aliabba and a resident of Panjimogaru.

It is suspected that Kalandar might have suffered a heart attack while driving his car and breathed his lost after parking it on the roadside.

The observers, who initially thought that the driver was taking rest after parking the car or waiting for someone, later grew suspicious and approached the vehicle.

When the realised that the driver was in an unconscious state, they immediately informed the jurisdictional police, who contacted the family members of the man.

Kalandar was then shifted to Government Wenlock Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. It is suspected that he might have breathed his last inside the car.

It is learnt that Khalandar, who reportedly had been suffering from heart ailments since his childhood, had recently purchased the car.

He was running a catering business. He is survived by his parents, three brothers and a sister. A case has been registered at Kadri police station.

Udupi, Jul 21: Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swami, the chief pontiff of Puthige Mutt, has tested positive for coronavirus. 

The pontiff got admitted into KMC Hospital Manipal last night and his treatment is in progress at the said hospital.

He was supposed to initiate his annual Chaturmasa Vruta at Padigaru Mutt on Tuesday.

According to sources, he was suffering from fever and hence he opted to get tested for covid-19. His health condition is said to be stable.

Udupi, June 26: BJP leader K Raghavendra Kini has been appointed as the new Chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) by Government of Karnataka.

A well-known businessman, Raghavendra Kini is also serving as the president of Kunjibettu Consumers’ Multipurpose Co-operative Union.

Along with him, the State Government has appointed Suma Naika, Praveen Kumar Shetty and Kishor Kumar as members of the Authority.

Belgaum, Mar 30: As many as 2442 labourers hailing from Karnataka have been brought back in 62 buses by the State government from Maharashtra on Sunday, in the backdrop of nation-wide lockdown following COVID-19 outbreak.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday urged migrant labourers not to leave the State owing to the nationwide lockdown and assured that the Maharashtra government will look after their interests.

Hundreds of migrants, a majority of whom are daily wage workers started rushing to their native places from different states amid uncertainty over their livelihood following the announcement of a 21-day nationwide lockdown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week in order to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
