Mangaluru: Youth thrashed, handed over to cops for misbehaving with German girl

Managluru, Sept 24: A group of people thrashed and handed over a man to the police after he allegedly misbehaved with an 18-year-old German national near Paneer church near Konaje on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Mustafa (19), a local resident. It is said that he is mentally ill. He had recently undergone treatment at for his mental illness at a hospital in the city. 

According to the police, the German national had come to the city on a 11-month visa to teach students in an NGO in Deralakatte. 

As she was walking past the church, Mustafa asked her to cooperate with him and touched her back. The girl raised an alarm and a few residents came to her rescue, the police said.

When Mustafa tried to escape, people chased and caught him. They allegedly beat him up before handing him over to the Konaje police, sources said.

Bengaluru, Feb 28: BS Yediyurappa’s contribution to the economy is substantial, and he is one CM who has contributed largely to making India the fifth largest economy, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday.

“He will ensure that Karnataka contributes towards making India the third-largest economy in the coming days,” Singh said, who had flown from New Delhi to participate in the CM’s birthday celebrations.

Singh recalled Yediyurappa asking him how to increase welfare measures for farmers, and had suggested that the CM reduce interest rates on loans to help the community. “Yediyurappa took the suggestion seriously and reduced interest of loans to a mere 4 % and gradually reduced it to 1 % before coming down to zero,” Singh said, appreciating Yediyurappa’s love for farmers.

Udupi, Jul 26: Two persons including a lady doctor have been arrested by the Kaup police in Udupi district for trying to use fake salary documents to avail loan from a bank to buy a car. 

According to police, on July 24, the doctor had visited Bank of Baroda's branch office at Kaup Moodabettu. She had approached the branch manager for a car loan for herself and her brother. She claimed that her monthly salary is Rs 2.66 lakh.

The bank verified the details furnished along with the loan application. The bank found that even though the doctor had furnished salary slips of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, she was presently not employed there.

The bank manager has filed a complaint at Kaup police station, accusing the doctor of trying to cheat the bank by availing loan on the basis of fake documents.

The police registered a case and nabbed her when she visited the Katapady branch of the same bank today. The police also arrested a man, who according to the doctor, created fake documents for her.

Mangaluru, Apr 18: Food kits were distributed to as many as 100 needy Beary poets, writers and artistes’ on behalf of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy at a simple ceremony held at the Academy office here on Friday.
 
The service initiative during the Lockdown was taken up as per the guidance of Minister for Kannada and Culture C T Ravi.
 
Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary distributed the kits to the beneficiaries.
