Mangaluru’s Shanthi Prakashana takes part in 36th Sharjah international book fair

Mangaluru, Oct 30: Shanthi Prakashana, a publishing house from Karnataka’s Mangaluru city, is all set to take part in the 36th Sharjah International Book Fair.

The 11-day annual book exhibition-cum-sale will be held from November 1 to November 11 at Sharjah Expo Center, Sharjah.

Shanthi Prakashana is known for publishing Islamic books in Kannada on different topics and areas such as society, politics and culture. Till date it has published more than 270 titles. It also has three mobile literature vans travelling all over Karnataka.

Mr. Sudheer Kumar Shetty, President, UAE Exchange, released the invitation card of the Shanthi Prakashana’s outlet.  

Abdul Khader Kukkage and Jaffer Sadik, representatives of Shanathi Prakashana and NRI activist Muhammed Ali Uchil were present.

I am proud that a Kannada publication is participating  at Sharjah International Book Fair. But also astonished why other Kannda Big wigs has not participated? Wish a big success to "Shanthi Prakashana"

Hubballi, June 8: If everything goes as expected, the railway station in Hubballi, the commercial capital of the state and also the headquarters of South Western Railway (SWR), will have the world’s longest railway platform next year.

E Vijaya, chief public relation officer of SWR, said the work is being done as part of doubling between Hubballi and Bengaluru. 

“At present, Hubballi has five platforms, and the number will be increased to eight. Inspection carriage line is getting converted to full platform. 

Platform No. 1 will be extended from 550m to 1,400m with 10m width. At present, Gorakhpur’s 1,366m platform is the world’s longest facility,” the officer said.

She added that one more entry point is coming up at Gadag Road. “Rs 90 crore is being spent on the works related to full yard, signalling, electrical and building. 

The works, started in November 2019, will be completed in the next one year,” said Vijaya.

Bengaluru, May 10: Karnataka on Sunday reported 59 new cases of coronavirus, taking the total number of cases in the state to 848, informed state health department.
Out of the total number of cases, 422 people have been discharged and 31 have died due to the infection in the state.
The health department further informed that six COVID-19 patients are currently in the Intensive Care Unit.

Bengaluru, Jun 8: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar on Sunday said that Congress is a secular party and they clearly do not want any third candidate from BJP to win the Rajya Sabha elections.

Speaking to news agency, Shivakumar said, "We are a secular party. We are very clear that we don't want any BJP third candidate to win the Rajya Sabha election. My leader, Sonia Gandhi will take a call on it."
"My party leaders have taken a call on HD Devegowda Ji, very soon they will come with an announcement," he added.

Shivakumar had on Saturday said that the party has decided to field one candidate for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

He said the party would soon take a decision on the issue of support to former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's candidature to the Upper House.
The elections to fill the vacant 18 Rajya Sabha seats from seven states will be held on June 19.
