Manipal: Oman student duped of Rs 4.5 lakh with fake admission letter

Udupi, Nov 16: A citizen from Oman has been duped with a fake letter of admission with regard to an educational course in Manipal here.

Superintendent of Police Sanjeev M. Patil said here on Wednesday that Murthad Nadim Al Rawahi (21), an Oman national came to Manipal University for admission to B.Com course. He came to Manipal on a student visa.

The authorities of the university came to know that Rawahi had been duped with a fake letter of admission. He has already paid U.S. $ 6,600 (nearly Rs 4.5 lakh) as fees.

As per the recommendation of the Manipal University, the Udupi police would get his student visa cancelled. Rawahi has been asked to leave the country in three days with an Exit Permit.

Bengaluru, Mar 10: Three more positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka taking the tally to four, state Health Minister B Sriramulu on Tuesday informed.

"Their family members have been isolated and their health is being monitored. I urge citizens to take precautionary measures and co-operate in preventing the spread of this infection," Sriramulu said.

As on Monday, the national tally of persons affected by the coronavirus is 45.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), in the past 24 hours, one positive case from Kerala, two from Pune, and three from Bengaluru have been confirmed.

Apart from the ICMR; National Institute of Virology in Pune; 51 Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories; and National Centre for Disease Control, New Delhi are carrying out tests for COVID-19.

Bengaluru, Jun 4: The Special Investment Promotion Task Force, constituted by the Karnataka government, held its first meeting in Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 3.

The first meeting of the task force was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Karnataka government.

The body is seeking to find ways to attract the disenchanted multi-national corporations (MNCs) which are looking to shift their manufacturing base away from China in the back-drop of the COVID-19 outbreak.
