Abu Dhabi, Sept 27: Manoj Vasudevan, the World Champion of Public Speaking presented a two hour interactive session at the India Social Center, Abu Dhabi from 7 to 9pm on Friday 22nd September, 2017. Hosted by the Toastmaster Division H and India Social Centre, the session opened to a packed audience who were glued to their seats till the end. The crowd comprised of Toastmasters from various chapters and selected invitees. There were also attendees from the Bureimi Club which belongs to the neighbouring state of Oman.

The session commenced with the screening of Vasudevan’s winning seven minute speech at Vancouver this August, titled ‘Pull Less, Bend More. He used the analogy of a cupid’s arrow to tell people that maintaining relationships were more important than holding on to egos.

This was followed by a very comprehensive interview conducted by Toastmaster Loyola Pinto where Vasudevan explained his journey from an introverted ‘techie’ to an enigmatic orator, just by the power of perseverance and dedication. He stated that he attributed his success to constant improvisation and self-introspection.

“There is always something left to learn even if you are the World Champion,” he said “It is the little things that make the difference between ordinary and extraordinary.”

Toastmaster Sunil Kottarathil, District 105 Director of Toastmasters, said that Vasudevan managed to boost the confidence of upcoming orators and speakers in the audience by his friendly demeanor and integrity in his interactions.

Rajeevan Maroli who welcomed the gathering said that ISC is honored to host the World Champion of Public Speaking.

“We were privileged to meet, greet and interact with ManojVasudevan, that too within one month of being crowned as a Champion. The interaction was very engaging and inspired each and every one of the 250 plus audience. A small gathering but a great event. World Champion of public speaking was right in front of us interacting with audience and explaining his steps towards success. I was in two minds initially whether to attend or not, due to wife's insistence, decided to accompany her but had I missed, it would have been a great loss for me. Attending a Toastmasters' program is always educative and inspirational but this program was something more. The 7 minutes Championship speech of Manoj, which they reproduced, was not only an excellent delivery of speech but also it was a class on “art of co-living” for all the married people. “Pull Less, Bend More” can be an university subject, such a deep and thought provoking subject. Thank you Abu Dhabi Toastmasters and all its office bearers, especially Division H Director Mr. Althaf M.S, for this rare occasion.

What an honour to have met the "World Champion of Public Speaking Manoj Vasudevan".

I was privileged to get a photo taken with him and to do the Thanks to the Champ and all the amazing people attending this exciting event.

I'm a proud Toastmaster and meeting Manoj in the flesh was an amazing experience.

Public speaking can be daunting for some. But like any skill, it can be perfected with time.

Vasudevan says that as a messenger, you are performing a service for your audience rather than speaking for your own validation. When you have a presentation to give, don't rush to craft it instead first, figure out the fundamentals of the presentation and your goal. Vasudevan says you must "emotionally connect with your listeners and present information in a way that resonates with their needs, goals and agendas."

This was a night to remember.

Do you want to become a confident public speaker and strong leader?  If so, Toastmasters is the place for you. You’ll find a supportive learn-by-doing environment that allows you to achieve your goals at your own pace.

Social Forum Central Committee president Janab Harris Mangaluru chaired the program and welcomed the guests. In his presidential speech he described and uncovered stories of freedom struggle and participants of Indian Muslims for the freedom fight. He urged everyone to fight against unconstitutional Citizenship Amendment Bill which passed by Centre government. The Indians, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and region have firmly resolved to oppose the draconian laws and fascist moves to debar the poor. Constitution granted to every person and citizen of India who are not ready to put them on a test of ideology of RSS and programs of BJP to implement the Brahmanist mind-set. He said that the police atrocities against CAA/NRC/NPR protesters had increased only in BJP-ruled States and  there were several loose ends in the police story about the incidents leading to the firing.

Dubai, Aug 7: ‘Nama Tuluve’ Purushotham Salian, a staunch stalwart who always supported humanity and a strong pillar for Tuluvas in Dubai, passed away August, 4 at Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain. He was suffering from cancer and was admitted to Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain some time ago. He was on the last stage of illness which was not detected earlier.

His funeral last rites were conducted on Thursday August 7 at Jebel Ali cemetery in Hindu rites with a few of his family members present. Due to Covid pandemic, neither his body was able to be flown back to hometown nor could his two children come down to attend the funeral. However, it was said that his wish was to be cremated here in Dubai which unknowingly sometime back he whispered to one of his friends.

Purushotham had few years ago, survived a heart attack and fought back his life, though it had a minor paralytic effect on him. Even though, till recently he used to do his day-to-day work normally. He was a hard working personality and owned a readymade garment shop in Ajman and Dubai mostly taking care of clients with requirement of uniforms and coveralls. His dedication towards work was always appreciated by his clients who used to get their things delivered on time always.

He was never a publicity person and was helping the poor and needy in whatever ways he could silently. He strongly supported the community and was associated with Nama Tuluveru and Billawa community with commitment. He used to voluntarily come forward for the ground work of various functions of the community and used to be there until it was done perfectly.
