Udupi, Jun 30: Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji, the chief pontiff of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt has brushed aside the demand of fringe groups like Sri Ram Sena that he should apologize for revealing the fact that many Hindus also consume beef in India.pejawar

Several Hindutva hardliners including SRS chief Pramod Muthalik had slammed the senior pontiff and asked him to withdraw his statement which exposed the double standard of communal outfits that use beef as a pretext to target Muslims.

Replying to queries of media persons here on Thursday, the seer once again justified his decision to host iftar party for Muslims and allow them to offer namaz at the dining complex of the Krishna Mutt.

He also recalled an instance wherein leaders of Hindu community had reportedly reached an agreement with their Muslim counterparts to allow Muslims to offer namaz once in a week in the proposed Ram temple in Ayodhya when VP Singh was the prime minister of India.

The seer re-iterated that allowing Muslims to offer namaz cannot be an insult to Hindus or Hindu religion. Instead, it creates a positive opinion about Hindus among the followers of other faiths, he said.

Bengaluru, June 23: Karnataka Congress chief D K Shivakumar has urged his party colleagues to be active on social media to counter the propaganda of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Speaking to media persons, the KPCC president said that no more than 20 out of the 68 Congress MLAs are active on social media.

“All those MLAs who are doing well need to be projected. We want leaders, not mere followers. They all should be the face of Congress in Karnataka. Party should not depend on just my face or Siddaramaiah’s,” he said.

Shivakumar’s diktat has resulted in the party’s social media unit scrambling to get leaders to create their accounts.

“We’re pressuring all the party MLAs and leaders. We’re asking their personal assistants or gunmen to operate their accounts if they are not savvy with social media,” KPCC social media chief A N Nataraj Gowda said.

He pointed out that the 20 MLAs who are active on social media include U T Khader, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Priyank Kharge, Krishna Byre Gowda among others.

“We’re also trying to get the accounts verified of those who are beginning to get active. For example, it was only recently that we got the accounts of S R Patil and Vijay Singh verified,” Gowda said.

Tapping the full potential of social media is crucial for the Congress because the BJP has found much success in reaching out to voters through various online platforms.

In fact, ahead of the 2018 Assembly elections, the Congress found that there were 10 ministers and some 40 MLAs who had turned a blind eye towards social media.

Shivakumar said he was also working on putting in place a system in the party under which all developments related to the state and country will be communicated to all party leaders at 10 am every day.

Bengaluru, May 4: Former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday said that the health of the migrants who have been allowed to move, should not be jeopardized and appropriate tests must be conducted.

"The task was to send the workers to their places. However, their health should not be jeopardized. This decision made for their benefit should not be a travesty for them. There will also be physical interference on the buses and appropriate tests must be done," said Kumaraswamy.

"The lockdown, which was implemented without any prerequisites, is now loosened without warning. The state government, which has allowed migrant workers to move to the city, has mobilized large numbers of people. By this, the government is playing with their health," he added.

He continued saying that the government should not lose out on an unscientific move that resulted in the loss of thousands of crores of rupees from a custodial lockdown.

"Workers and villages must be sober. The government must take all necessary precautions in this regard," he added.
