Bengaluru, Oct 14: Popular Front of India, which is facing the prospect of a ban by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government, is all set to flaunt its strength in Karnataka as thousands of its members across the state are toiling restlessly to make the organisation’s grand conference in Bengaluru a grand success.

The organisers expect unprecedented turnout for its conference being held at the Palace Ground with a slogan “we also have something to say” on October 15. Women and children are also expected to take part in large numbers. The social media cell of the PFI has been actively campaigning for over a fortnight. For past couple of days it is trying to trend #BengaluruWithPFI on twitter. The organisers have also sought the support of JD(S) leader supremo H D Deve Gowda and a few other prominent politicians in the state.

According to a release issued by the organisers, the cultural activities will begin at 1 p.m. and the formal programme would be inaugurated at 2:30 p.m. by E Abubaker, Chairman of PFI. Muhammed Saqib, the State President of Popular Front will preside over the conference.

H D Deve Gowda, Oscar Fernandes, Former Union Minister, Moulana Muhammed Umrain Mehfooz Rahmani, National Secretary, All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Jnanaprakash Swamiji, Urilingapeddi Mutt, Mysuru,  K.S. Puttannaayya, MLA, Melukote, Zameer Ahmed, MLA, Chamarajapete, Naseer Ahmed, Chairman, Minority Commission, Karnataka, B T Lalita Nayak, Former Minister, AK Subrayya, Former President, Kannada Pustaka Pradhikara,  Kodihalli Chandrashekhar, State President, Rajya Raita Sangha, Hasirusene, B. Gopal, President, Praja Parivartana Party,  L. Hanumanthayya, former MLC,  Mohan Raj, State President, Dalit Swabhimani Sangarsha Samiti, B.R.Bhaskar Prasad, State Convenor, Dalit Damanitara Swabhimani Vedike, are the invited guests.

A release issued by the PFI state that the organisation has its presence throughout the country with many lakhs as its members and many more lakhs as its supporters. “From its inception, it has been trying to empower the downtrodden by actively engaging them in social, educational, professional and political fields. For decades, the organization has been resisting democratically against the fascist forces. These forces, apart from spreading hatred in the society, are working vigorously against some of the fundamental rights guaranteed to each and every citizen of the country,” it said.

“After the BJP came to the power in the Centre the denial of the fundamental rights has become rampant. Anyone critical of the Government or the BJP is promptly labeled “anti-national”. The licenses of thousands of NGOs have already been cancelled by this government. It has banned IRF, the organization founded by the religious scholar Zakir Naik. Various other organizations are in verge of getting banned. The activists have been falsely accused, defamed, imprisoned for the crime of criticizing the Government. Numerous false allegations were made on Teesta Setalvad, which has made her embroil in legal battle against the state. Criticizing the government is now considered as an act of treason,” it said.

“The BJP has been misusing the investigative agencies for political purposes. The NIA is allegedly investigating PFI as it is critical of BJP and RSS. A few media houses which have become the propaganda tool of the current regime have been spreading lies against the organization. To expose the lies spewed by them and unveil the truth, the organization has started a countrywide campaign with the rallying cry “We also have something to say”. Various programs including massive conferences have already been held throughout the country,” it added.

Mangaluru, May 20: The Third Vande Bharat Mission flight carrying 63 repatriates from Muscat landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 8.35 pm on Wednesday. It was piloted by Mangalurean captain Michael Saldanha.

More than half of the passengers from Muscat alighted in Bengaluru where the flight landed first. Remaining 63 passengers came to Mangaluru.

After landing, all the passengers were given health kits, food and mobile SIMs, and arrangements were made to change their currency at the airport.

A health department team screened each passenger, after which emigration formalities were completed. Their throat swab samples will be tested for Covid-19 on Thursday.

Union fertiliser minister D V Sadananda Gowda tweeted on Wednesday that the next Vande Bharat Mission flight is scheduled on Friday from Doha to Mangaluru. The flight will land at Mangaluru at 9.55 pm.

The third repatriation flight from Dubai to Mangaluru is scheduled on Saturday. It will first land at Bengaluru and later fly to Mangaluru. However, there are no flights from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to Mangaluru.

Mangaluru, Apr 19: District-in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said that Rs 2000 each has been deposited in the bank accounts of 6,122 construction workers, who are registered with the labour department in the Dakshina Kannada district. The amount will be deposited in the accounts of other registered construction workers at the earliest.

The state government had announced Rs 2000 to construction labourers who are registered and have lost their livelihood due to the on-going nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The curbs, which were imposed on March 24, have been extended till May 3. "The labourers were reeling under hardship after construction activities came to a halt," said the Minister.

Supply food

Local bodies should make arrangements to supply food for stranded labourers, destitutes and beggars in all the ULBs in Dakshina Kannada district, Poojary said.

"No one should starve during the lockdown period. All the ULBs should identify destitutes, migrant labourers in their jurisdiction and arrange food for them. In case of necessity, the help of NGOs can also be taken," he added
The minister announced that Asha workers and health workers would collect information on people's health by visiting the houses in the district and submit a report within 10 days.

Mangaluru, Jul 13: Air India Express flight brought around 170 passengers from Bahrain to Mangaluru under Vande Bharat Mission yesterday.

This is the first VBM flight from Bahrain to Mangaluru. The flight took off from Bahrain at 10 am on Sunday and landed at Mangaluru International airport at 4.45 pm.

Even though thousands of Indian expatriates from other gulf countries were brought to Mangaluru in past few weeks, no flight was arranged from Bahrain so far. Hence, several Mangalureans including senior citizens, women and patients were stranded in Bahrain for months together.

Local entrepreneur and president of Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Mohammed Mansoor, who saw the plight of the hapless Indian expatriates in Bahrain had discussions with the Indian embassy in Bahrain and convinced it to arrange a special Air India Express flight under the Vande Bharat Mission.

IOC, along with the cooperation of ‘KHK Heroes’ had arranged meal kits for passengers during their flight to Mangaluru. IOC had also contacted all the Mangaluru-based NRIs who wanted to fly back to India and made a list with the help of Indian embassy to avoid any untoward incidents.

IOC had also given details of hotels to be quarantined in Mangaluru and Udupi, names of nodal officers to be contacted and emergency telephone numbers. The passengers were given a warm farewell by the office bearers of IOC from Bahrain international airport.

The effort taken by Mohammed Mansoor, president of IOC is lauded by all. All the passengers who travelled by the flight have thanked IOC and its office bearers whole heartedly.
