Mangalore, April 26: The officials of Mangalore City Corporation on Wednesday cleared the encroached land at Jeppu Pattana tank near Jeppu Market, here.
Jeppu Pattana tank is situated in survey number 89/5 A. One Noor Mohammed Ibrahim had allegedly encroached the tank land by building a wall using laterite stones.
The tank covers 33 cents land. Using the JCB, the wall was cleared. In fact, Mangalore taluk surveyor had surveyed the tank are and had submitted a report on encroachment by an individual to the MCC Commissioner on Monday.
MCC Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar directed the operation. There was no opposition by the one who had allegedly encroached the tank during the drive.
MCC Executive Engineer Rajashekar, Assistant Executive Engineer Naresh Shenoy and others were present.
Sources in the MCC said that under tank rejuvenation project, the Jeppu Pattana tank will be developed. Tender has been invited to develop the tank at an estimated cost of Rs one crore. Assembly Speaker Yogish Bhat said “the encroachment of the tank came to light during a survey. Hence, it was decided to clear the encroachment.”
