'Meant for BJP': Siddaramaiah does damage control over his 'prostitute' remark

Mangaluru, Aug 31: Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday swung into damage control mode, saying that his "prostitutes can't complain about the dance floor" comment was meant for the BJP and not for JD(S).

On being asked about his comment comparing JD(S) workers to prostitutes, the Congress leader said, "I meant dancers who can't dance complain about the dance floor. By this, I meant the BJP, who else?"

"A prostitute who can't dance says the floor isn't right to dance," the Congress leader had reportedly said when a reporter asked his reaction to JDS workers blaming him for the collapse of the alliance government.

After ruling the state for 14 months, the Congress-JDS government collapsed on July 22 after it lost a confidence motion moved by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy in the assembly.

Many in the government blamed Siddaramaiah for the government's collapse as many rebel MLAs were considered his loyalists.

Raghavendra Kini is the new chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority

Udupi, June 26: BJP leader K Raghavendra Kini has been appointed as the new Chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) by Government of Karnataka.

A well-known businessman, Raghavendra Kini is also serving as the president of Kunjibettu Consumers’ Multipurpose Co-operative Union.

Along with him, the State Government has appointed Suma Naika, Praveen Kumar Shetty and Kishor Kumar as members of the Authority.

Home Minister warns of action against ignoring lockdown order in 9 districts

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai had warned those who chose to defy the lockdown order clamped in nine districts, to prevent the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 virus in the state.

Speaking to newsmen, he said, "We have ordered for a lockdown in nine districts in the state to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and issued guidelines to follow it."

The nine COVID-19-affected districts are Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada (Mangaluru), Dharwad, Belagavi, Kalaburgi and Chikkablapur.

According to Mr. Bommai, the State government will put in place further measures next week depending on how the situation will unfold in the State and the neighbouring States.

"Government offices will be operational in the State, including in the nine COVID 19-affected districts. As per the current schedule, the legislature sessions will also continue. Pourakarmikas will be working at 50% strength," he added.

NRI Habeeb Ur Rahiman Uppinangady conferred doctorate

Newsroom, Feb 10: Habeeb Ur Rahiman, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at Kingdom University Bahrain, has been awarded doctorate from the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.

He has completed his thesis Influence of Quality of Work Life, Ego Status and Job Attitude on Organisational Commitment and Productivity of Bank Employees under the guidance of Prof Rashmi Kodikal.

Habeeb Ur Rahiman is the son of Yusuf and Ayisha couple from Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada district.

After obtaining his Master Degree (MBA, Finance) from Visvesvaraya Technological University in 2012, he had worked in Bearys First Grade College, Kundapura and P A College of Engineering, Mangaluru before migrating to Bahrain.
