Mekedatu, Dec 8: Karnataka minister for Water Resources D K Shivakumar today expressed surprise over Tamil Nadu calling for a special Legislature session over Mekedatu drinking water project taken up within the state and said that the riparian State should realise benefits as it was not an irrigation project.
Speaking to reporters at the proposed dam site on the border of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu border in Ramangara District, the Minister said that Karnataka wanted friendly relations with Tamil Nadu and the people of two states were living with amity in both sides of the border.
Mekedatu is a spot where River Cauvery flows in a very narrow ravine that is as narrow as a goat’s leap. Hence the name given to this tourist spot on the state border.
“The people of the two States have no problem living together.” he told
