Only Saudis can own and run private clinics

Riyadh, Apr 16: Private clinics should be owned and supervised by Saudi citizens, according to a decision taken by the Cabinet in its weekly meeting held at the Yamamah Palace yesterday.

The meeting was presided over by Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense.

The Cabinet took this decision about private medical establishments, excepting hospitals, after making necessary amendments to the existing regulations.

The new regulations governing private medical complex, medical laboratory, scanning or X-ray center, or a center where single-day surgery is conducted, also stipulates that the Saudi owner should be a specialized doctor and should supervise the unit full time.

However, a non-Saudi doctor can undertake the supervising duty only if a Saudi doctor is not available.

It also stipulated that the medical director of a hospital should be a qualified Saudi. “Administration of health units should also be undertaken by Saudis with appropriate qualifications,” Minister of Culture and Information Abdul Aziz Khoja said after the meeting.

The Cabinet also decided to take steps to relocate factories that are operating in nonindustrial areas to industrial cities.

One or more committees will be set up to prepare a list and gather detailed information about the factories that are operating in non-industrial areas.

After examining each case, the committee will make recommendations such as allowing a factory to remain in its existing location or to be moved to another site.

The Cabinet also directed the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to allocate land for future factories.

Saudi govt asks expats to cancel final exit, reentry visas

Riyadh, Mar 24: General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) on Tuesday asked all expatriates in the Kingdom, who have a final exit visa or an exit and reentry visa, to quickly cancel them before their expiry. This is to avoid the prescribed fines for not availing of these visas before their expiry date, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The new measure was taken following the Saudi government’s suspension of international flights as part of the preventive and precautionary measures to stem the spread of new coronavirus. The Jawazat asked expatriates to verify the validity of such visas and cancel them through Ministry of Interior’s electronic service portals of Absher or Muqeem.

It underlined the need to adhere to the regulations and instructions in order to avoid fines prescribed by law against the violators.

11 Indian expats die due to COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, Apr 24: As many as eleven Indian nationals have died due to COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia.

"As per information available with the Embassy as of April 22, eleven Indian nationals (four in Madinah, three in Makkah, two in Jeddah, one in Riyadh and one in Dammam) have passed away due to COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia," the Embassy of India in Saudi Arabia said in a press release on Wednesday.

It urged the Indian community to remain calm and avoid spreading of rumours amid the COVID-19 crisis.

"The Embassy also reiterates the need for the community to remain calm and avoid spreading of rumours that may create panic. It is important that social media is not used to disseminate false messages and spread hatred along communal lines that can vitiate the atmosphere," the Embassy said.

"As stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, COVID-19 does not see race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or borders before striking, and our response and conduct should attach primacy to unity and brotherhood," it said.

Moreover, several measures on the supply of food, medicines and other emergency assistance to Indians in need are being implemented across the Kingdom.

Earlier, Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ausaf Sayeed on April 22 had interacted with Indian community volunteers from the smaller towns all across the Kingdom to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 situation, and evaluate the implementation of various measures to ensure the welfare of Indian nationals.

Saudi Arabia partially lifts curfew, keeps 24-hour lockdown in Makkah

Riyadh, Apr 26: The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia has issued an order to partially lift the curfew in all regions of the Kingdom, to become from 9am to 5pm, starting Sunday through Wednesday May 13, while keeping a 24-hour curfew in the holy city of Makkah and in previously isolated neighbourhoods, state news agency (SPA) said early on Sunday.

The order also allowed the opening of some economic and commercial activities, which include wholesale and retail shops in addition to malls.

They can operate for two weeks, beginning on April 29 (Wednesday) until May 13 (Ramadan 6-20), however, certain shops within malls like beauty clinics, barber salons, gyms, cinemas, and restaurants will continue to be restricted from reopening.
