‘Prophet is more merciful than people are to themselves’

ProphetDubai, Jul 12: Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), known for good ethics, has shown mercy not only on Muslims but the mankind and all creatures.

This was affirmed by Saudi scholar Dr Sheikh Nasir Al Zahrani in his lecture ‘Peace be upon you Prophet Muhammad’, on Wednesday night.

The preaching, the first in a series of 22 lectures, is part of the 17th session of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“Prophet Muhammad, the master of all Adam’s children and the first to enter paradise, is more merciful to people than they are to themselves.”

He added that the Prophet, who has taught true peace to humanity, was known for truthfulness and honesty. “The Prophet was saluted by stones, shaded by clouds in the open desert, greeted by mountains, honoured by trees, and supported by God.”

Prophet Muhammad, whose name is associated with the name of Almighty Allah five times a day, led all prophets in prayer in the Aqsa Masjid in Jerusalem.

“Prophet Muhammad who was mentioned in the Holy Quran over 4,000 times in name and by character was a role model in tolerance with all his enemies and those who hurt him and his followers,” he said, noting that he never took revenge.

He said Prophet Muhammad was very modest, refused flattering, and showed utmost tolerance and behaviour to his companions, relatives, neighbours, and even enemies. “He used to instruct his followers call for Islam in the nicest and easiest way.”

Dr Al Zahrani said he has been working on a big project billed ‘Peace be upon you Prophet Muhammad, spanning museums, exhibitions, and over 500 volumes, of which 100 books have been already finished. “This record encyclopedia depicts every aspect of the Prophet’s biography.” The project, including a TV channel and social networks, makes use of the latest technologies. “The second round of the exhibition billed ‘Peace be upon you Prophet Mohammed’ shall be held in Dubai after the holy month of Ramadan.”

The cultural programme of the Award which will continue until July 27, will see a lecture by renowned Syrian scholar Dr Mohammed Ratib Al Nabulsi on the humanitarian aspects of Prophet Muhammad on July 11 night, followed by a lecture themed ‘General aspects of the Prophet’s biography’ by popular Saudi scholar Dr Sheikh Abdul Wahhab Al Turairi on July 12.

All lectures are slated to start at 10.30pm every night after the Taraweeh Prayer. Valuable prizes await attendees all along the 1 to 20 Ramadan Award,” he said, noting that more details are available at the website www.quran.gov.ae.

The 11-category award, aimed to serve the Holy Quran and promote the general standard of the Quranic performance, is to see, as of July 17, 89 contestants of the over 160 countries contacted from across the world to participate in the competition held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Dubai, Apr 24: The UAE reported 525 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The Ministry of Health and Prevention said the total number of confirmed cases in the UAE is now 9,281.

MOHAP reported 8 deaths taking the total number of deaths in the country to 64. 123 recoveries have also been announced.

According to the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the latest cases were detected through its intensified investigation and examination procedures.

The ministry conducted over 32,000 additional COVID-19 tests among citizens and residents.

The ministry offered its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. It also wished a speedy recovery to all patients and called upon the general public to strictly adhere to preventative measures out of concern for the health and safety of all.

Beirut, Aug 4: A massive explosion has shaken the Lebanese capital of Beirut, with a very high number of casualties expected.

A warehouse at the Beirut Port caught fire on Tuesday afternoon, triggering a huge explosion, Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Several smaller explosions were heard before the bigger one occurred.

Abbas Ibrahim, the head of Lebanon’s General Security, said that “highly explosive materials” confiscated earlier had been stored at the site.

Footage shared on social media captured the moment of the bigger explosion, with a colossal shock wave seen traveling fast across several hundreds of meters and shrouding the area in thick smoke.

The blast left enormous material damage to the surrounding buildings and structures. But it was not immediately known how big an area was affected.

There was also no immediate casualty count. Graphic amateur video from the scene showed bodies strewn on the ground, with their clothes blown off.

The NNA said rescue operations were underway. Ambulances were seen heading toward the scene in central Beirut.

Lebanese LBC television channel quoted Lebanon’s Health Minister Hamad Hasan as saying that the blast had caused a “very high number of injuries” and “extensive damage.”

Beirut Governor Marwan Abboud said an unspecified number of firefighters dispatched to extinguish the initial fire had been killed in the explosion.

“As they were putting out the fire, the explosion took place and we’ve [lost them],” he said, breaking down on live TV.

The explosion comes at a time when the Arab country is passing through its worst economic and financial crisis in decades, and amid rising tensions with Israel.

Riyad, Apr 27: The Saudi-led Arab Coalition supporting Yemen’s UN-recognized government on Monday urged all parties to end any escalation of hostilities and return to the status that existed before the Southern Transitional Council (STC) declared self-rule.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the coalition emphasized “the need to cancel any step that violates the Riyadh agreement and work to accelerate its implementation.” 

On Sunday, the United Arab Emirates-backed STC scrapped a peace deal with the internationally recognized government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

Accusing the government of corruption and mismanagement, the separatists said they would “self-govern” the key southern port city of Aden and other southern provinces.

Yemen’s Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Hadhrami described the move as a “resumption of its (STC’s) armed insurgency and rejection and complete withdrawal from the Riyadh agreement.” 

Authorities in Yemen’s southern provinces of Hadramawt, Abyan, Shabwa, Al-Mahra and the remote island of Socotra also rejected the separatist group’s claim to self-rule.

The government said local and security authorities in the five provinces dismissed the move as a “clear and definite coup.” 

Some of the provinces issued their own statements condemning it.

The coalition appealed to all parties to “give priority to the interests of the Yemeni people over any other interests”. 

It also urged the parties involved not to lose their focus on working to achieve the goal of restoring the state, ending the Houthi “coup” and “countering terrorist organizations”.

“The Coalition has and will continue to undertake practical and systematic steps to implement the Riyadh Agreement between the parties to unite Yemeni ranks, restore state institutions and combat the scourge of terrorism,” the statement said. “The responsibility rests with the signatories to the Agreement to undertake national steps toward implementing its provisions, which were signed and agreed upon with a time matrix for implementation.”

The STC has been part of the coalition-backed forces fighting the Iran-backed Houthi militia, which seized control of the Yemeni capital Sanaa and other provinces in 2014.

The Houthi “coup” has led to the formation of the Saudi-led coalition, which had since driven away the Houthis from the south and other provinces. President Hadi’s government has made Aden as its temporary seat.
