Bengaluru, Jun 8: The Congress would evaluate performance of its ministers every six months and changes would be made if required, said Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara as he tried to pacify MLAs unhappy over not making it to the ministry.

"Every six months there will be an assessment by the party to evaluate the performance of ministers, and ministers will be changed depending upon their performance, and according to the decisions of the party, whenever it is needed," Parameshwara, also the Pradesh Congress Committee chief, he told reporters here today.

"I'm not saying this; these are conditions that are mentioned by All India Congress party while approving the list (of ministers)," he added.

Kumaraswamy had yesterday expanded his 15-day old cabinet, by inducting 25 ministers, with 14 members from the Congress and nine from his party, JDS and one each from BSP and the nascent Karnataka Pragnavanta Janata Paksha.

Upset over not securing berths in the expanded ministry, several Congress legislators today held separate meetings in the city.

Noting there was still opportunity for legislators, Parameshwara said, "we will have to fill six vacant minister posts."

"We will do it, and probably in the days to come based on the performance decisions will be made," he added.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said that at the earliest, the posts in boards and corporations would be filled, in accordance with the formula agreed upon between the coalition partners.

Alleging that BJP has plans to attract disgruntled MLAs, the KPCC chief said he would talk to them and try to convince them about the party's decision.

Mangalore, Jun 3: One man was arrested by the Crime Branch of city police from Mangalore for allegedly having links with gangster Ravi Pujari, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil said on Wednesday.

According to the police, the man identified as Ghulam has been sent to 10-day police custody.

"During the investigation of a case related to Ravi Pujari, it was found that one Ghulam is a close associate of Pujari and had helped him in extortion and other illegal activity. Ghulam was arrested from Mangalore. He was produced before a court and sent to 10-day police custody," Patil said.

The senior police officer said that further investigation is on in the matter.

Pujari, who was wanted in several cases including ones related to heinous crimes like murder and extortion, was brought to Bengaluru earlier this year from Senegal. He had reportedly gone underground two decades ago and had allegedly been carrying out illegal activities from abroad.

Mangaluru, June 13: Commending the Karnataka government move to ban the online classes for children up to Standard 5, Mangaluru MLA U T Khader has demanded to impose ban on all education apps that offer online coaching to school children.

"I welcome the government’s decision of banning online classes up to class 5. I would like to know why education apps of corporate companies are allowed to continue when schools are banned to conduct online classes. Why the government could not ban those education apps that offer online classes?” the former minister questioned.

He warned that private schools in the state may commence their online classes through such apps of corporate companies if the present situation continues.

Not all parents in the state can afford buying smart phones required for online classes, he said. "Only 30% of the school children in the state have access to smart phones. Most of the parents cannot afford to buy smart phones for their children. Government should take into consideration the mental stress of academically brilliant children among poor families. Those children may go under depression when they do not have access to online classes. The government can cancel some of the schemes like distribution of bicycles and reserve such funds to find solutions to the problems poor children face at present,” Khader said.
