‘Misbehaviour’ with lady MLC: Ramesh quits Congress before facing action

Madikeri, Aug 23: When the ruling Congress in Karnataka was considering action against T P Ramesh, chairman of Karnataka Silk Marketing Board Limited, who was caught misbehaving  with MLC Veena Achaiah during the Independence Day celebrations at Madikeri, the latter has quit the party.

Apart from quitting the post as board chairman, Ramesh also resigned from the primary membership of the party. Ramesh had earlier served as the Kodagu district president of the party.

The incident occurred during an Independence Day programme organised by the district administration at fort premises here.

Ramesh, following an instruction from District Minister M R Seetharam, handed over his resignation letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Seetharam had expressed resentment over the incident.

Along with the resignation letter, he also enclosed his version on the incident, a fact report, on what actually happened during the programme.

"I have been in public life for 40 years, and the act of enquiring the health of a person (MLC Veena Achaiah) whom I treat as a sister, is construed as wrong by the party. It would be suffocating for seniors like me to continue further in the organisation," Ramesh wrote in his letter to KPCC working president Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Ramesh had held the hand of Veena, only to be gently pushed back by the latter, the video of which had gone viral on social networking sites. As the controversy raged, Kodagu District Congress Committee president Shivu Madappa submitted a report to the higher ups, recommending disciplinary action against Ramesh for embarrassing the party.

Bengaluru, Aug 3: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Satish Jarakiholi on Sunday said that as per the party sources, state chief minister BS Yediyurappa has got only six months' time and there are different teams working against Yediyurappa in their party.

The BJP high command has decided to bring down Yediyurappa, Jarakhioli said. He added, "Yediyurappa had asked BJP high command to appoint him Chief Minister for six months and due to corona, his period has been extended. But now their own party sources have revealed that he has got only another six months."

While addressing the issue of different statements by BJP leaders and ministership aspirants after five MLCs were nominated, Jarakiholi said "Yediyurappa followers are not actual followers. BJP high command has already decided to bring down Yediyurappa as per their own party sources."

While speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, he said there are teams formed in the names of deputy CMs and there are many who are working in their party against Yediyurappa.

He also said that it's up to their party what they think about Yediyurappa's tenure, whether they keep him as CM or remove him. Being in Opposition, now Congress is only working on strengthening the party, he said.

Bengaluru, June 23: A senior IAS officer allegedly, who had faced arrest in connection with I Monetary Advice (IMA) scam, today allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in the city. 

The deceased is BM Vijay Shankar. He had been arrested by special investigation team (SIT) in the I Monetary Advice (IMA) case when he was deputy commissioner (DC) Urban Bengaluru. 

He had spent few days in the jail over his alleged involvement in the IMA scam and was released on bail. The IMA case is currently being probed by Central Bureau of Investigation.

Shankar was staying in Jayanagar near Ashoka Pillar along with his family members.

Shankar was accused of taking Rs 1.5 crore to approve a report on financial irregularities, and was accused of giving a clean chit to the main accused of IMA scam, Mohammed Mansoor Khan.

The incident came to light around 8 pm. It is alleged that Shankar ended his life around 7.00 pm, when he was alone in the house. Shankar was said to be under severe depression after his name surfaced in the scam, and his subsequent arrest.

However, the exact reason for his extreme step is yet to be identified. Tilak Nagar police have taken up the case of mysterious death under CrPc and are probing further. As of now the police officials have not found any death note. A senior officer said: "once we finish the procedures of investigating the spot his body will be shifted to Victoria hospital for post mortem. The report will find out exact cause of his death".

Police commissioner Bhaskar Rao said: "We have taken up the case of unnatural death with regard to Vijay Shankar's death. Further probe will reveal more details about it".

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited in a statement announced that their milk collection centres across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will be closed on March 29 and 30.

Due to a shortage of storage space with them, the Union has decided to stop collecting milk on these two days, according to the statement issued here on Saturday.

The sale/retail of milk and milk products won’t be affected in these two days.
